just wondering how much different overclocking really makes in terms of faster loading, better framerates in games etc?

cause ive gotta xp1700, soltek drv4, gf2 ti, 256ddr, etc and in 3dmark2001se i got:

standard vid card and cpu speed 4695
cpu standard and vid card increase by 30 for core and memory clock 4966
cpu standard and vid card increase by 30 for core clock and 50 for memory clock 4968 then crashed afterwards
cpu to 1900+ and vid card increased by 30 for core and memory clock 5063

cpu is just overclocked by increasing fsb speed to 145 it doesnt like more than that. (maybe a pci card not liking it?)

and also in sandra 2003 pro it shows big difference in performance as well

its just i cant really notice a great deal in games etc, is it just me or do u need to overclock more than that to get performance noticeable???

by the way 1467mhz to 1610mhz for newbie overclocker cant be bad?haha i wanna do more but have to unlock cpu. (try for the 2nd time!haha)

thanks guys

Well you have essentially done a 10% overclock on your system.

A good overclock might be as high as 30-40%, but it depends on the hardware you buy.

Some people get their CPS to overclock by over 100%. Thats not a system overclock by 100% but it's a good start.

We overclockers are enthuasists getting the most from our hardware as a hobby. 10% doesn't make a whole real world of difference, but it's fun doing it, and it's fun trying to get more.

yer, i know that myself i enjoy the thrill of getting more from the component than was originally intended. I also enjoy tweaking everything to squeeze the maximum amount of juice out of it as possible and we it all goes belly up, you can simply reset it and start again.

unless you go too far and corrupt your Hard drives;)

There is some risk involved that people should be aware of.

You will notice more speed improvement from overclocking the bottleneck in your system. In your case its your Graphics card.

eg: running a Pentium4 2GHz at 3GHz with a Geforce2MX at stock is not going to yeild any increase in gaming performance (Graphics card is being maxed out with a 2GHz CPU beghind it, let alone 3GHz CPU). Overclocking the Geforce2MX by 30MHz memory will yeild more gaming performance.

On the other hand, a Duron 600 with a Geforce4 Ti will get a huge speed boost from overclocking the CPU to 1GHz, rather than the graphics card.

hence the importance of matching CPU and graphics hardware.

well i have a 1700 Xp running at xp2000 speeds thats roughly a 50 or so savings i guess? Just wait till i can run the sucker at 166 fsb!

the main performance boost is taking a Duron up to 133 or 166, I got a Duron 1.3, took it up to 133FSB so I get some perfomance out of the whole system, cause that way my RAM runs at 133 and AGP etc, whereas at 100MHz everything was real slow, cause is slows down the northbridge which control's the RAM and AGP.

Also with a Duron, which costs 60$, you might as well OC to the max, if it dies in a year, ah, oh well,, it served me well, and off to get a new one plus free keyring, :D
