The Inquirer is spilling out the usual round of rumours. I advise you to take all of this with a big grain of salt but if it were true than ATI will have Nvidia and customers on a run for the most bang for the buck.
However, we have learned that ATI's next generation R350 chip which will compete with the Geforce FX is now in mass production, and will definitely be in retail stores in April. It will be officially announced at CeBIT in Hannover, Germany on March 12, 2003.
Radeon 9900 Pro
R350 VPU
375Mhz core clock
DirectX 9.1 support
10 layer PCB
128MB 2.5ns GDDR-I
External power supply (350w PSU) needed

hmm, so seeming its using normal DDR, not DDR-II, do you think they will incrase the mem. clock much? I see there is suposedly a higher yield, and improvements on the core, but its only running at 375mhz. Not too sure how well it will compete with the GFFX with good drivers. Time will tell. Its turning out to be a good battle however.

The Gf FX does have ddrII memory, but it will be a while before we are putting ddrII sticks of ram into our pcs... i mean ddr400 has'nt even become offical

dual channel maybe, ddrII is different and afaik nothing uses it yet.
*ahem*
again with the linkage but

I believe that says DDR II ;)
Anyway ATi still using DDR I isn't that bad coz it's on a 256 bit bus while Nvidia is using a 128 bit bus..... so in theory Nvidia has to have twice the memory speed of an ATi card to get the same memory bandwidth
Grrr!!

Yeah ... but I imagine that DDR with a 256 Bit bus is a lot cheaper and more reliable than DDR-II (which is new tech).

It will be cheaper to make but will it be cheaper for us to buy?, ill start saving for the $1000 indroduction price.

All I want is a 9700 Pro for under $500 brand new. I'd prefer <$400, but settle for under $500. So the sooner these cards come out the sooner I can get ready for teh Doomage. :D
8 Pipelines. 375MHz core, talk of 256 RAM. It makes you think, doesn't it? I know ppl with computers slower than that there graphics card.
From the stuff I've seen the 9700 (non-pro) is like within 10% of the pro and I don't think the non-pro costs 90% of the pro price

Perhaps, you have to remember tho that with a 256bit bus, there are double the amount of linkages all the way along the bus, making it more expensive to produce (the pcb's?) than 128bit bus.
