YEAH BABY!!!
Just upgraded my old TBird 1.33 @ 1.4ish to a new XP1600+. It's an unlocked Palomino, and runs fine @ XP1900+ ( though I've upped the voltage a miniscule amount just in case ;) ). Went fine first go - AND MY TEMPS ARE DOWN TWO DEGREES!
BWAHAHAHAHAHAAAA - PH33R ME!
So now I've got a 1900+ running at 36-37°C full load with mobo temps of 28°C. ( My TBird was running 38-39°C ).
*mutters*
Now if only I could find a #$W* $%)* thermometer so I could take an ambient temp . Although the old setup gave an ambient-CPU delta of around 15°C, so I'm guessing I'm now down to around 13°.
The coolest thing is - TBred B's are COOLER! D@MN I WANT ONE NOW - should be able to get a 10°C delta .
Anyone else upgraded recently and had a temp DROP? :)
PS: Volod, your as-new V9 isn't far away....

Not sure of it's limits, but was told around 1.6-1.7G. Dunno about fsb - but if it's like my TBird, I'll be RAM-limited around 185 :(.
[edit] Overclockers.com database shows one lone AGKGA @ 2.1G  - Hax. Most are around 1.7-1.8, so I'm obviously not trying hard enough yet! :D :p

Yeah my steppin' seems to average around 1.8Ghz but yes... at least your ram does a better job.

I thought they were hotter.

tbredbs do run cooler MHz for MHz, but they overclock so much higher that by the time you've reached a nice high stable OC the heat output is that much higher ;)

Does anything run faster KJ? I went from a durrie 1300 to a 1700 @ 2000 and noticed a small increase in games, but nothing that major.
Yourself?
**** - it's colder, that'll do for now ;)

My old AGKGA (XP1700+ tho) did 1780MHz on air (187x9.5) - so hopefully you should be able to get it up around that mark.
I'm not sure what speed mird has got it to run at with water cooling tho...

thats because the processor is usaully never the bottleneck in a modern system.... Vid card + HDrives are the major bottleneck nowdays

If I remember correctly kj, TBird->Palamino there were a few optimisations, and it was a 0.18 micron chip with reports of some 0.13 bit inside. A small delta decrease is probably normal.

Indeed. I actually made this upgrade purely for the temp drop ( which I exected ), and any performance increase would just be a happy extra ( cost for this upgrade will probably be around $0 ;) ). My next immenent upgrade will be swapping this chip out for a TBred B - probably around 1800+/1900+. And I won't be doing that for the stock performance either :D.
RTCW runs a little faster, but no - Windows isn't any faster, as an XP1600+ = 1.4G, the same as my old chip ( XP ratings don't match up to TBird clocks very well I've found - P4's maybe, but not TBirds ). My bottleneck there will definately be hard-drive ( might have to see if I can swing a near-free 8MB cache upgrade :D ).
PPS - nobody here wanting to get rid of a TBred B XP1800+ by any chance? :D
