I would say it has more to do with yeild problems, its a big fricken chip, so you wouldnt get many to a wafer, I dont really give a toss that its gonna be late, I wasnt gonna buy one anyway :P

well, the sooner it comes out, the sooner the Athlon's will get cheaper and the sooner I can get an Athlon above 2GHz, :D

Not scaling high enough, and yeild problems are the same thing Wibber. I bet they could get close to 100% yeilds at 800MHz, but the higher the MHz the lower the yeilds.

They were going to be fricking expensive chips + motherboards anyhow, and I've just upgraded to an nForce2 anyways. Meh, next major overhaul can wait till 2004, im patient. ;)

The current 0.13 micron tech will be maxed out by the end of the year, they bumping up the cache, FSB etc, but their actual MHz (not PR) seems to be going slow.
they don't seem to have 0.09micron tech in development, or is it gonna be taken over by UMC? can't remember exactly, but I remember by how much they delayed the transfer from 0.18 to 0.13.
and the Hammer, by it's release date will be around 2GHz, which is about equivalent to a P4 3GHz running todays appz, while Intel will be over 4GHz, moving onto 0.09micron tech,

so it doesn't really look to good for AMD,
but mind you, neither does intel, but at least intel seems to have a bit more of a headroom.

cause to me it looks like they are reaching the limits of current processor manufacturing

Barton is coming 10th feb according to AMD...... at least thats the word....
None of you will be able to afford the opteron anyway... it is a server chip with server motherboard @ server prices.... so drop those dreams it aint going to happen.... no idea on the athlon 64 though.... another kettle of fish.....

i wouldn't bother waiting for barton. in all likeliness it probably won't scale that much higher in speed than tbred b, so the only real benefit it will have is the extra cache.. which isn't really all that necessary on an athlon anyway IMO.
