Very tempting, if only for the cut-scenes. Blizzard make some of the coolest CG in games.

Yeah man definitely i just cant wait for the next version of starcraft... *crosses fingers* heres hoping there will be one!

I'm looking forward to it...

Blizzard make awesome games.. they have got style they always seem to both pioneer and perfect with their games...

They always extensively beta test of their games too, yay for knocking out serious bugs and achieving generally ok balance between characters/races..

THEY ROCK..

So Warcraft III is complete, the mmorpg Worlds of Warcraft is still in production but will be irrelevant to me in New Zealand with my 56k dial up.. so what are they gonna work on next?

Bring on: Starcraft II and Diablo III I say..!!!

Yeah man, i agree with all that... blizzard rules! and definitely starcraft II .... have been waiting so long for that!

I'm slightly confused as to what its trying to be.
I know its not entirely RTS, and that it was going to have some RPG elements (possibly scrapped :D) and that it concentrates on small numbers of units...

I'm afraid the official statements did little to enlighten me... :D

I think I'll hold out for TA2. :D

CrazySurfaNZ
15-06-2002, 11:20 PM
Yeah i think they call it RPS - role playing strategy or something like that.... its a cross between RPG and RTS in any case..

Ragnor

It's just a RTS with beefy cool looking hero unit's, and stronger but smaller amount of grunt type dudes.

The heros have levels and stats, spells, bonuses... so there will be alot more focus on micromanagment of your troops... as opposed to Warcraft II and Starcraft where you could just go hard out producing craploads of a couple of unit types and completely overwhelm.

I'll be camped outside in the morning waiting for this to arrive, wonder if i can get trhe same crazy amount of playtime out of it as Starcraft, Diablo, Diablo 2 and Warcraft 2 got.. hella yes deffinitly :D

Ragnor : You've obviously never played any really good starcraft players, micromanagement is life. Every 1/2 type unit massive rush is counterable with a much small force of the correct units if used properly. If youy get up to 3 or 4 types of units it stops being a massive "couple of units rush". You can break the backbone of any major set of groups if you counter properly and even swing back against them if there production is geared entierly that way. Ahhh the good old days, going to have to LAN some of that the last couple of daysa before it s release, then get ready for w3 at the next lan

I don't/didn't really like Starcraft...

I mean, I played it a hell of a lot a LAN cafes :D, but then I bought it soon after buying TA and I really felt ripped off...

I guess I can sort of blame it on TA's awesomeness and my ****to internet connection...

II guess I'll just have to get the 'demo' and see what its like... Oooh, it better have an innovative but familiar control system!

HEHEH what can i say.... i played starcraft heaps but have never played TA.. guess i should but where to get a copy ? :p

NNA2m
16-06-2002, 10:10 PM
Its extremely difficult to find a boxed copy of TA these days, you may have to buy it off the internet...
Or you could try Google... *nudge nudge wink wink*

CrazySurfaNZ
16-06-2002, 10:11 PM
hehehe, someone at the next lan might let me have a go with their copy... that would be nice of them wouldnt it :D

Ragnor

I played heaps starcraft actually.. sure with eg: protoss you have to micromange your templars etc .. but trust me on this: Warcraft III is a whole higher level of micromanagement

Yeah i definitley going to get it once it comes out. I hope it is release before the next L3, as then we can have sweet sweet lan play. We should also get some good starcraft in at the next lan as well.
NNA2m i hear you saying you dont like starcraft, well youve obviousley never played a decent RTS in your life then. I pitty you:)

i have TA, and i dont mind lending it to you so you can install the mulitplayer spawn, which doesn't require a cd. :p

imho TA is better than starcraft. both are excellent games but TA has far more action and is generally build lots and kill everything which is the whole point of an rts when you get down to it. i used to hate starcraf until some people on this lan enlightened me and i have grown to like it (5 years after its release LOL). the games we had at L3 kicked ass.

but no game has had me hooked as much as total annihilation. even the single player campaigns which supposedly weren't that great had me totally immersed. there was a period of a year where i played TA and no other game. no other game has done that since. it was the best $100 i ever spent and it's $30 via platinum pc so now you have no excuse NOT to buy it!! ;)

so if people want to play TA at L3, i'd prefer it to starcraft :D, although starcraft still is a lot of fun :).

*waits for TA2*

ohhhman i used to love TA whilst i wasnt that good having neva played multi player, only skirmish i used to love it ahhhh those were the days, i brought it and still have 1 of the discs but one of my now ex friends borrowed a whole lot of my cds and managed to lose the other disc, i still dont speak to him to this day

i have Warcraft 3 now and after having only played one multiplayer game and two missions i can say that it is a good game. the campaign is quite absorbing (exams coming up... this is a BAD thing) but multiplayer is... different. when you get so many units, they impose upkeep on you. normally your peasants/peons bring in 10 gold but if you get "low upkeep" imposed, they only bring in 7 gold. max upkeep means they only bring in 4 gold. this stops you building huge armies of weak units and rushing the enemy i guess. the hero units dont look like the kind of thing i'd want in a multiplayer game, large quantities of relatively weak units is my style.

meh, its still a good game but i think i'll enjoy the single player campaign more.

Ragnor

The unit limit is like 90 as opposed to like 200 in starcraft .. it's a big change.. smaller armies..

Hero's look cool

You could do that whole "go outside" thing and look in a shop.
If you are so interested in getting it, which it sounds like u are....

Or pre-order direct from blizzard or something, that way you don't have to go out in that cold, horrible weather

Outside? there is another world beyond the front door? Why bother goign into a shop when i can type a sentence and get the answer in like 10 mins, anyway is it really that big of a fuss geez!!!!!!

There are over 4.5 million! pre orders for the game, which explains why it's not gonna be in shops till the 3rd of july when the game itself went gold code on the 13th of june

the naughty guys had CD images available for d/l on the 14th ... but yet it won't be available in shops till the 3rd of July...hehe oh dear!

Alot'... of people will be finished the single player campagn before the game comes out in the shops.

This really highlights how the future of bricks and mortar shops for distributing games looks limited...

The same thing has happened to Neverwinter Nights. It has already gone gold purely on pre-orders.

I think you are confusing "going gold" with "going gold code"

"going gold" is a music cd selling 100,000 copies.. "going gold code" means that the game code has been finalized (ie v1.0) and is ready to be sent to the factory where the cd's are burnt / made etc..

I said going gold code... but either way both apply

new tactic i came up with tnite for Night Elves.....
build lotsa the Tower tree thingys.... then uproot them and walk (slowly) towards the enemy base, planting whenever you run across serious oppisition...

WC3 is good, TA is excelent, Starcraft is, well, shoulda been like WC3 realy.....

Ragnor

Starcraft was and is an excellent game.. significantly improved on warcraft 2 which came before it...

You must also remember Starcraft came out a significant amount of time before TA did..

There was no way that Starcraft could of been "like" War3. Just think for a minute.. regular gamers just didn't have the hardware required... even now I have friends who are going to have to upgrade to play War3, UT 2003.. Doom3

hehe damn they are slow tho... i mean your enemy could run their guys past / around the tress, completely smash your base and return to their base to defend in time to thwart your attack..

I played this last night for about 1.5 hrs, and as soon as I was defeated by the three other people, I realised why I didnt play WarCraft 1 and 2 that much.

Not enough money, busy building units to take out the 'rebels' and then someone comes in with their air attack fiends who freeze stuff, and pretty much 5 minutes later, I'm screwed.

Pretty budget. I dont understand the idea of playing for over an hour, making heaps of defensive towers etc, only to be completely wiped out in minutes?

Then again, its just like real life really. Everyone spends years making defenses/offensive weapons, and then the USA/China/Russia/Sudan launch a few nukes and within minutes we're all fvcked.
