My computer keeps reseting after 15-30 min of playing graphic intensive programs. It has a new MSI 6380E board and 2000+Xp CPU (2nd one of each). Ive tried 3 grahic cards Radeon 7500, G4 440 and Ti4200. Operating temps using PC Alert (By MSI) normal sytem 30-35 CPU 36-38.When under load System Slightly higher and CPU 38-41. 41 degrees seem to be the temp computer resets as though It reset button has been pushed. It has 120mm input fan in base, 80mm outlet near top , a 400watt power supply with dual fans. A USB Scanner, USB microsoft mouse and USB zip drive.Using a Volcano 9 fan and heatsink

those CPU temps sound imposible, with system of 30 to 35°C, your CPU is doing at least 50°C,

sounds pretty strange,

i'm with N, its your temps, make sure you've got some good thermal paste like as3 in a nice thin layer.

if you do it at night in a cool room does it make a difference?

Thats for that . Im using a Volcano 9 with AS3.Temps are reading direct from PC Alert (MSI). Ive tried 2 motherboards & 2 cpus. Talking to suppliers temps seem OK.Ive got 2 hard drives ,2 CD roms and an Ihug Network Card. Ive tried reformatting anf just installing WIN XP with all the latest drivers.

Well I have the same setup (XP2000+, Volcano 9, AS3) currently idle, System 36° CPU 46° and it is usually always like that, 8° - 10° above ambient. Your 'PC Alert' is clearly wrong. Check either your BIOS or 'PC Alert' for the CPU overheat temperature and that is probably when it resets. For some reason, when you overheat it resets(?) rather than shuting down, which would be safer.

Questions:

What OS?
Which motherboard chipset drivers?
Which video drivers?
What are your bios settings, particulary ram settings and agp and PCI settings?

Suggestions:

Update your OS and drivers, get the latest mobo chipset drivers, video drivers, Direct X 9, service pack and updates for your OS..

Download motherboard monitor and see if the temps you are getting are different:
http://mbm.livewiredev.com/download.html

Increase the DRAM voltage from the default of 2.5 t0 2.6

Reduce ram settings ie:
CAS 2 down to CAS 2.5
Set ram speed (mhz) to 133mhz or asynchronous with CPU FSB speed
Command rate 2T
etc etc

Worst case is that you have a hardware problem somewhere.. which means you need to take it back to the retailer for testing, or find a mate with a working system and try one part at a time in their system..
