Hmm..
You had an Acoustic Edge if I remember rightly..
Keep saving for teh KLIPSCH Pro Media desktop PC surround system 5.1
However alternatively the 4.1 logitech Z560's are in your price range.
PC Pieces have them, and/or styles can probably get them for you too...

Quality 5.1 doesn't come cheap...
I've been investigating getting the Promedia 5.1's from a mates boss, he imports sound stuff. I'm hoping he can get them cheap but its a long shot.
It's a shame there is no logitech 5.1 system, that would be competitive.
hmm we need a DIY Homemade 5.1 guide....
For good sound you'll have to go good quality headphones in the mean time, like me...

Lol that's what I'm doing too. Gonna spend upto $200 on l337 pair of headphones to take advantage of the GameTheatre XP when it arrives. :D
Yeah aa few ppl here have made there own. And a guide has been mentioned before but hte prob being no $ for necessary bits. If they could get the money (ie. sponsors and the like) we'd be able to veiw some tasty howto goodness.

Wish I could help you out on this one.. but I'm in the same situation.
I'd get the Klipsch 5.1's but they are not available in NZ anymore, and whos knows when/if they come back.
Creative just don't do it for me either... I'd like something with some proper quality, and for the price you pay, the reports on Creative aren't flattering. :(

Just do what I did.....I went out and search the second hand shops for old stereos etc, managed to pick up an old POS Phillips stereo but it came with 2 rather large Box speakers which stand about 1m high :D
You'll find a lot of old speakers (if they're in good nick) will give ya a much better sound with PLENTY of bass.
I've got the 2 Phillips speakers in front, my old AWIA speakers behind me, and my POS AWIA sub against the wall.....all running out of that old stereo I bought. Add to that I've only got a Creative vibra :(
But hey it sounds good, goes loud and has PLENTY of bass :p
Still can't wait to get a 5.1 card and an amp ;)

I recommend these, of course your gonna need the Aiwa minisystem to go with them hehe :D :D
LOL,
wait till I make a box for my speakers, :D, made my own PSU, AMP, and got two 8" subs, sounds pretty good just lying on the floor, once I make everything, I'll take some pics.

I don't think you NEED an Aiwa mini system for those Ant, has anyone tried cross breeding speakers from mini systems

Well of course you don't have to have the Aiwa that comes with them, actually it would be good to try the speakers on a different system.
I'm pretty sure my system is almost 8 years old (would you believe that it has an optical port in the back for CD Digital out!!!). Damn good for that age but then again, most of the good quality stuff is fairly old. I was thinkin of buyin one of those new Aiwas, $799 or something (speakers taller than my screen or 2x the height of my current ones)
