Speakers by monitors - ok?

Hrmm, got my new sounds, which are somewhat deafening and the neighbours don't like :D

My room is all over the place and wondering if having the speakers on each side of my monitor would be ok? - or will it fubar the screen and/or speakers?

Any opinions or comments welcome ... thanks.

If they're computer speakers they should be OK - they're well sheilded.

But if they're Hi-Fi speakers, it's not a good idea!

They are Hi-Fi speakers .. so I best not put them near the screen huh? bugger.

OH well, I'll get onto re-arranging my room nicely - prehaps if this huge heatsink and fan in the back of the main unit didn't stick out so much it would fit where my old sounds were, oh well :(

oh BTW, you should have seen the look on the salesmans face when I said "Yep, I'll take on of those" :D

I don't care if all 700 people turn up - it ain't worth every last penny I've got for a weekend LAN. For the same price as Equinox ( 3 days of LANing ), I can fund AND attend every L3, VM and NCGN LAN for an entire year.

Sif I'd pick the nox with a choice like that!

Don't worry - it'll take a lot more than that to offend me.

No, what I'm saying is that REALISTICALLY, it'll cost the best part of $500 to get a person and their computer from anywhere in the South Island to Auckland and then back. Even swinging favours for a pick-up and drop-off at Auckland, and assuming you manage to achieve THE cheapest ferry/plane tickets - you're still looking at over $250+.

Add accomodation, food, LAN entry and other miscellaneous costs, and you're really looking at the best part of a grand. For a LAN. 3 days of LAN.

Meanwhile, back in I-still-have-a-student-loan reality, the VAST majority of L3/VM/NCGN attendees down here won't be going.

I'm not saying Equinox is a bad idea - if I was anywhere in the NORTH Island I'd be there. It's just that inter-island LANing doesn't work unless you're loaded :(.

I see where your coming from, it would be damn expensive to get all the way from chch to auckland AND back.

Maybe people should realise that there is life south of the Bombays .. and bring the cool stuff to Wellington or even way down south for a change.

As long as the speakers are over 1m away from the monitor your should be alright with those speakers, my sister has the same system..

PS: I'm in auckland and I'm not at the nox .. omg am I insanse.. no I had work today =( .. also having meh own lan with mates this weekend instead.. $60 cheaper ;)

Mine do very well, but on high bass I can see the magnets warping the screen though... must get a new desk.

or get some metal sheets to act as shields, anything conductive and grounded should do the trick, meh it is probably easier to just rearrange the desk

I know what you are saying KJ. If I were in wellington I probably would not be going. If I were in ChCh I almost certainly would not be going, but I do have something else to say.

The people from the South Island etc who have traveled have come for more than a 3 day lan. They come for the life experience, the thrill, the adventure, the road trip and to have fun. They will remember this LAN more so than me because of the time they had away. They will take away more than just a 3 day gaming experience and it will be worth every penny. I did journey's like this when I was in my 20's and wouldn't give them up for anything, most of them new years eve experiences.

It's a pitty you couldn't make it, and I know you would love too if you could. I hope you will be able to make it next year if things are financially better. I wish all OCNZ could make it but I totally understand it's just not practical. We miss you guys.

I'm just glad that you guys down in CHCH have an awesome event called L3, and you have so much to thank KJ you will never know until it's gone. You guys just seem to have so much fun there. I hope I can come down for one in the next year or so. I'm certainly planning to, I can get a free flight down on a Friday, and back on a Monday with the Airforce and all I would need is a place to stay for a couple of nights.

Anyway if we bleet on about Equinox for a while it's because we are having fun and are not trying to make anyone feel jelous, just trying to share the experience.

It would kinda be cool to have a big one in ChCh to do a road trip down there for the people in the North. I bet all the fullas traveling are loving the journey as much as the lan.

The only reason I'm not up at EQX is simply financial(I'm not even sure what I'm going to do for meals on monday at themoment.) But yeah the trip up and meeting everyone would probably be better than the actual gaming, as that is what you would really remember afterwards.

well the only reason i'm not the is $$$$ and time, i'm haveing a hard time to get time off to go to L3 #12 (this will be my first L3 :) fun fun, can't stay all of the time, but you can't have it all can u?)
