Yes, I was removing the CPU and couldn't be bothered unplugging the fan header. I needed somewhere to place the HSF and what do I see, a nice flat surface to rest the HSF on.

Sounds quite extreme. I have a Titan socket 7 hsf on the underside of my voodoo 3 as well as the stock heatsink and an extra 80mm fan on top - but I suppose that is another ballpark altogether. Good improvement in heat though - before you could literally fry eggs on the heatsink, now both heatsinks barely get warm - even overclocked quite a bit.
