ATI makes unprecedented commitment to high-quality, frequently updated drivers and software

CATALYST™ software including unified, Microsoft WHQL certified driver and ATI's proprietary applications available for free download at ATI.com

Thursday, June 13, 2002

Markham, Ontario - ATI today renewed its commitment to providing high-quality, reliable graphics solutions by introducing CATALYST™, a software suite that includes unified driver and software applications to enable its RADEON™ family of graphics products.

The CATALYST suite consists of four software elements: ATI's unified driver for RADEON products; HYDRAVISION™, ATI's proprietary desktop management software; ATI's popular MULTIMEDIA CENTER™ software and ATI's new REMOTE WONDER™ software.

The first release of CATALYST introduces:
SMARTGART™, ATI's proprietary diagnostic tool, which will determine and configure optimal system settings for the most stable performance. This will make the industry's most stable 3D acceleration drivers and software even more reliable;
A newly designed control panel to help users easily manage their settings, helping them finding the right balance between performance and image-quality;
Software to drive HDTV's through ATI's new HDTV Component Video Adapter (available from ATI.com) to achieve previously unattainable image quality;
A new version of ATI's MULTIMEDIA CENTER software which can be used for SVCD compliant capture;
Software for ATI's REMOTE WONDER, including new pre-defined plug-ins, enabling users to map the keys on their REMOTE WONDER to drive their favorite applications from across the room - or another room altogether.
Performance will be a key focus of every CATALYST release. ATI is committed to frequent updates, getting performance enhancements into the hands of users quickly instead of waiting for annual, or semi-annual performance boosts as is sometimes common in the graphics industry. All drivers in CATALYST will be WHQL (Windows Hardware Quality Labs) certified by Microsoft.

"Our track record over the past six months has shown how dedicated we are to this initiative - and how effectively we are executing on our software strategy," said Rick Bergman, Senior Vice President, Marketing and General Manager, Desktop, ATI Technologies Inc. "We are fully committed to maintaining the high level of stability in our entire software offering. CATALYST will raise the bar in the industry in terms of what users expect from their graphics cards."

ATI's customer service team supports the CATALYST suite. This will bring additional value to customers choosing products built by ATI and its graphics board partners. Customers are encouraged to use the online feedback process via ATI.com to send their suggestions for new CATALYST features and enhancements directly to ATI.

it's not like they're that much bigger to download than a certain "other" gfx card drivers. the last "other" drivers i downloaded were 9MB.

yes indeedy... @ 1st i though they just broke a track on the AGP socket - but this still didn't work after i rebuilt the track. So i gave it to the bench techs at work and turns out that it was not a mechanical break - the track actually blew up! They pulled out a couple of transistors that were completely shorted!!!
So what i think the morron did @ oem cpmputers (win something is his name) was use an AGP pro slot without the plastic key (u know the one with a big warning label that says do not remove unless using an AGP pro card) and somehow plugged the card in wrongly - why do i think so? well that mobo does not run D3D anymore... he obviously blew something on it 2. I just can't figure out how he did that though - i mean standard AGP cards locates itself into the slot as the PCB extends pass the slot...

anyway now i got a DRV5 and a GF4 leadtek

Installed and running like a bloody dream :D D3D kicks arse... so smooth... i might also add even though they havent done anything much to OpenGL i find my frame rate alot more stable.

The reference drivers worked fine for me, and I got a nice performance increase. :)

No Need to get all worked up.. easy fix unzip the drivers to a folder and Manually update the driver yourself by selecting the right model yourself...
