there may have been a short-circuit, as my pc reset.... dunno how though :D

You might want to take out your reference to whom you purchased it off...... some people might get pissed at you..... you can also PM him with any questions on stuff like that..... personally I wouldn't put it back in

Theres no way something that has recently caught fire would be going back into my machine!!!

well i have taken out the resistor now and tied the wires together :) didnt really use it much anyways ;) who would want to turn off the purdy lights :D

Why not replace the resistor?? should be cheap as ****e from good old DSE

resistance (ohms) dont you mean??? anyway, find someone else with one and look at their one note down the colours and ask DSE ,or whoeva, for a resistor with matching colours

Man we don't live in East L.A....... so how come we're refering to people as "ohms" now?!?!?

My god that's a piss poor joke    :(

Dude, something has to go seriously wrong if you get flames!! I'm assuming that this is the wire that runs on 12V DC, if so the inverter could be damaged! I personally would replace the whole lot!!

I know its expensive stuff but its cheaper than losing your entire rig!!

when you consider my complete lack of knowlage i would go with what OberoN said

oh S*** now why you have to go and say that :p i was comfortable in knowing that i had removed the resistor at fault and there was nothing more wrong. now youve got me worried! :D

but what i think happened was, on the resitor the + and - arms touched the steel case, the computer psu reset itself as it usually does when i short cuircuit it (happens quite a lot with me) and the resistor went up in flames, but only for a second, it then died down but started smelling like my old tbird did. so maybe the short circuit damaged the inverter... hmmmmm..

i found something else peculier... (dont mind the bad england) there is a high pitch whine when i have the inverter plugged in, but the glowwire not attachet. When i attach the glowwire the whine stops and the wire works fine.. hmmmm

Does ne1 else get the feeling Xplo should leave his case shut?? na JK

ask me again in a few years time when im like the best electronics person eva eh lol

That is a big worry.... how can you often short circuit your case? maybe you should just leave your case closed for a little while!

lol! its only when my soldering creeps out from under the heatshrink and stuff, from my LED setup :D oh and when i plugged in my cdrom drive while comp was on, and the electricity like jumped across ans stuff... tht looked soo cool...

Lol it sounds terribly dangerous... my dad doesnt even like me having case open when comp is running :) i broke a blade off a fan the other day damn it!.... got any pics of your led setup? or sparks :)

ive shorted my case before, but never sparks

your a worry......imagines what his friends think when he announces a new mod....jks

im pretty much like you, but i never broke a fan blade before..geez.

a friend of mine stuck his "finger" (heh) into his cpu fan (stockity stock amd one) and removed 3 of the 7 fans, how the hell he managed that i dunno..

CrazySurfaNZ

HAHAHA, you would be real mad if you did that!, i was tapping my cpu fan cos i had just powered on and it was making a hideous noise... think it needs to be replaced.. but somehow when i was tapping it i screwed up and my finger ploughed into one of the fans at the back of the case... one of the blades went flying... i dont think i need to say that i have a couple of new fans now..

In my (Limited) experience inverters do tend to screech a bit but keep in mind that an inverter is build to a specific impedence.

Removing a resistor (or even reducing the length of the wire) might allow it to work (& sometimes increases the brightness) but will shorten its life! I'm no expert but I'd say if it still works get a new resistor (the same as the old one) but this time heatshrink it and secure it in place!!

ROTFL ahhhh, its still funny everytime i think of that...(i was there btw)

I was talking to my brother who is very much an expert in everything Electri-Luminescent he tells me that the circuit should not need a resistor as it works more as a capcitor than a diode and draws very little Amps. So in his opinion whip out the resistor.

PS I Don't know what that means either!

My glow wire whines too if you have you ear close to it.
And it also does it when i have my cd audio enabled. I only just worked out how to shut it up last night.:)

I don't actually have EL wire (or Glowire as it is known by Brand) Just thought I'd let that be known. But alot do have it & It's a common problem. & if you have a solution, share it. That is, after all, the reason why we have forums isn't it?

Heh, sorry for the delay, been a little distant from the forums lately

I just disabled my cd audio in my creative surround mixer and it stops. Hope that helped anyone. :)
