Yeah that kinda surprised me, too, and here's the kicker...
Best Buy is hardcore retail - definitely not the lowest price around - it's like buying an Asus vid card from Dick Smith.

do you think it might be a combination of the the 0.13micron core pushing production costs down, and also nvidia planning to break the "new card $1000+" rule so it really can make nv30 as attractive as possible?

anyway, its bound to push ti4200 prices down to a comfortable level, maybe 128meg versions under $300 for the top brands, not just the cheapo ones :)

Your just doubling US$. I have found that generally retail NZ is about three times retail US. If you remember when the Ti4600 was released it was the same ($US400) and when they arrived here they were (depending on the manufacturer) ~$1100. It's not just vid cards either. I think it must be due to a combination of New Zealands isolation, low population and shipping costs.

I think you're right on the money, actually. Despite NZ being closer to Taiwan, ;) , things get shipped in HUGE amounts to the states as well as more often, with NZ just being such a smaller market, combined with NZ's $ against ALL the currencies, not just $US, make prices here seem just a bit more painful.

For anyone who gives a turd:

$400.00 USD United States Dollars
=
$725.03 NZD New Zealand Dollars

$1 NZD = $0.551700 USD

And judging from the NZ market previously, you can probably buy 'em at that and sell them here for $1100-1200...

The best antidote for a crap economy is military spending....hmmmm....coincidence? I think not.

Yeah last year when I had my P166 rig it was steady on round abouts $0.42C NZD most of last year. It hit $0.38C unfortunately when I needed an AMD K6 adapter, so I was gutted :(

We're gettin good now :)

yeah traditionally, but not in this day and age. infact if that really was the intention, it appears to have had the absolute reverse effect.

As good as the NZ dollar is at the present time, Im betting they are going to cost us the thick end of $900 retail at initial release, because they can.

And we probably wont see them for a month after they're released in the US, due to nVidia supposedly building the first batch of boards themselves. Thats just what I think, I could be talking sh*t again.
