Im upgrading shortly, and after realising that the Abit KR7's are cheaper if you get the RAID model, i decided i will be getting one.

I also own two 80Gb Seagate Barracuda IV 7200rpm drives.

Ive read some reviews on RAID, how to do it, the pro's and cons, but nothing specific to my 80gb's on this mobo. So has anyone had experience with RAID using Seagate HDD's? Any advice, suggestions?

In my opinon, RAID is just a waste of time....but to get the best out of it you need more than 2 drives. I'd get 4 40Gb drives rather than 2 80's, just coz of the extra 2 drive heads..... but i have no use for it realy, since my HDD transfer speeds dont realy get maxxed out yet.

Might want to consider a 0+1 setup, with 2 drives being used, and one backup....

I could never go back to a single drive now that I've experienced raid :D .I'd say to do it as long as you have a 3rd drive to store things u don't want to risk loosing:cool:

As for problems, to date I've had none and I've been using the same disks in raid0 for around 1 year now. I do however have a stand alone drive that I use for the storage of things that I don't want to risk loosing. I just use my raid array for the primary OS's and programs. everything else (including a spare OS) is kept on the storage drive just incase the array fails. With the right drivers and tweeks there is close to double the speed which is quite noticeable when loading games/programs or working with raw video;)

2 * 30 gig maxtor dm60+ for raid0
1 * 40 gig maxtor d740X for storage

your 2 * 80's make mine look kinda small now :(

I think you really need to give it a go yourself.
The reason being is that the results and ultimately whether it is worth it will entirely depend on your drives and your requirements (ie. progs, games you run etc).

It does really help if you have a third drive for storage though.

Dont knock it till youve tried it..

Most people 'think' its a waist of time cuzz they cant dont havent gone from a raid - 0 array to normal HDD's. RAID IS ****LOADS FASTER

not with seagate cudda4's youre not... you'll have to get them replaced with raid optimised versions from seagate.. contact seagate support and they'll organise it...
