Personally i think theyd oc the same ammount but no ones buying them even being $~30 cheeper.

Please give me some wise advice... altho a 1800 sounds better..

Its not my money so i can get either but i dont like getting my parents spending extra money for nothing.

yeah go for the 1700+ .. even if it doesn't OC as well (although you're quite right in saying it should be about the same), it's still a f'ing good CPU ;)

no sense in spending the extra dollars IMO.

yeah i was thinking that the 1700 is the best option.

But io do really want to hit the 2.0 Ghz mark :D

Il go to the shop and see, hopefully be able to apen a few up and quickly check the bridges so i dont need to unlock em and i wont void my warentee :D

if you're going to do that, then make sure you check the week code as well. generally the newer the better, so keep that in mind.

in case you're not sure what i mean by week code, the CPU below has the code "0241", which means it was manufacturered in the week 41 of 2002.

thanks mird :)

Thats next to the stepping right?

(im used to reading off cores even its pretty much the same layout:p)

I got a email from dragon and they say they have AMD Athlon 1800 t-bred revision b cpu's in stock. and that the price is on our site.

Couldnt find anything to do with T-bred B or t bred A 1800's on there site  Only about the 1800's retail boxed, nothing about t-bred.

1.6V?

pffft.
come back to us when you've found the limit using 1.85V at least! :D

Don't listen to SecretSquirrel, I thinks he's a bit confused about Palamino vs TBred default voltages. Only take it up to 1.75v. There's a good thread "2 things P4 overclockers SHOULD know " found here (http://forums.overclockers.co.nz/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4291&highlight=things) that talks about P4's on a 0.13 micron process having problems above 1.75v.

SecretSquirrel the default voltage for TBreds is 1.5-1.65v depending on the speed. If you say 1.85 at least, then somone fries their CPU at 1.9 or 1.95 they will be pretty cross at you.

check the overclockers database at overclockers.com to see how high ppl are getting their XP1700+ & 1800+ Tbreds.

also there seem to be two types of Tbred B's - TbredB "A's" and TbredB "J's". differentiated by their stepping, eg AIUCB vs JIUCB. the Tbred B "J's" dont seem to be any better overclockers than Tbred A. and TbredB XP1800+ apparently at the moment are the lower "J" versions, from what Ive gathered from overclockers.com anyway. Dont know if its the same here in NZ though - but Id presume so.

If they cant take a leap from 1.75 max to 1.85 max, how does the palamino handle the leap from 1.85 to 2.1 so happily?

They can, and people take them up to 2.0 and 2.1, but how long will they last?

When people first started overclocking TBirds no one took them up as high as 2.3 but they do now.

There was a thread on Intel P4's dying called "2 things P4 overclockers should know" that seemd to point to a shorter life, or lower overclocked speeds after 6 months if the voltage was pushed too high.

my AUIGA 0248 'Green' 1800+ is sitting happily at 1.99 (166x12) at 1.9v, air cooled with a SLK-800 and a 2000rpm stealth vantec 80mm,

sitting at 38* underload,

looped 3dmark for 2 hours and ran prime overnight, stable as the days

The TBredAs can hit 2.0GHz pretty easily, provided you have the right HSF. (Heat output around 90~100W depending on the V/Core setting).

Mine XP-1800+ sits @ 2.032 Ghz @ 1.775V, not too bad.
