Ouch, my computer not liking the 27°C here in Chch today...

up to 40° with my V9 on almost full. (it's usually about 33°)

Anyone guess at the correlation graph between room temp and core temps? exponential maybe?

Binky Stunt Cat
23-12-2002, 06:53 PM
well, mines sitting at 48 degrees while recoding an SG1 ep (btw i have three new ones o.O) and is 21 degrees over the incomming air temp.
This is about standard for me...with a V7+ on low.
But usualy its at about 44 degrees underload.

Deviant

At a guess I'd say it was differential, not exponential.

ie when you say 40 and ambient is 27 then that +13 degrees

and in winter it's 33 and ambient is 20 and that is +13 degrees.

And how the bloddy hell do you do the degrees symbol?

23-12-2002, 07:30 PM
Lol - laughs at self.

Just saw my core was at 48°, then realised my room temp was about 35°. Heh,
*opens window*

And yeah, I think Deviant is about right ( well, it's close enough ). I know with my setup I get temps about 14-16° above ambient ( ambient being my room temp, as that's what's near my radiator ), regardless of summer/winter temps.

BTW, Deviant, the ° symbol is gained by hitting:

Alt + 0176

That only works in Windows, and only on the numpad with numlock on though ;).

I get ° by start>programs>accessories>sys tools> Character Map.

Awesome wee program. All types of character stuff in there...

Ð Щ كككك ₪№Ж ♀ ﺶ

(hope your win installs can see that too...)

cool eh? love the arabic stuff, I wonder how you spell Jihad in it....

yea you'll notice in my xp2100+ temps thread that i've also been getting very high temps recently. in fact atm its running at 58 degrees, with the system temp at 20 (case side off).

hence my decision to get wet. :)

hsf is a taisol CGK76002 with AS3 and a TT smartfan 1 @ 3276rpm (max is ~4800rpm, temps drop about 2-3 degrees when i crank the fan speed up).

I suppose you'll be like me - wanting to upgrade to an Athlon XP so your temps go DOWN, heh :D.

P3 733 @ 32C full load (UD)
Arkua 1U HSF too :D
(Shuttle SV24)

Got the old 1.33ghz tb running, according to the a7n8x it's running @ around 45c idle, 52-55c load (not running UD, too fookin hot until i get wc)
Using wibbers old Pal6035 with a 60mm delta.
Sadly, as i value what's left of my sanity, I've cranked the fan down to 7v or thereabouts, hence the high temps.
With the delta balls out it sits at 45c load.
Yes it's hot in Piha :p

came home today and my comp had locked hard... oops :p

obviously i wont be running UD for a while until i get watercooling set up.

current temp 53° idle. its bloody hot here today tho, case temp with the side off is reading 40°!

i'm pretty sure this gigabyte board overestimates the temps tho, otherwise somethings seriously wrong and i've checked everything.

(btw thanks KJ for posting the ascii code for ° :))

agkga 1700+ @ 1850MHz @ 2.1V (115W baby!) watercooled... ambient temp usually around 25C, with load temp sitting on 40C most of the time these days... hit 50C the other day tho...

haha my case temp hit 40*c today

Usually my cpu isnt even at 40 but at the moment i dont really care, the only fan on my case is the psu extraction fan lol.

ooo how long have u been running at 2.1V?? Ive got the same stepping XP1700+ as u, guess my Ram is holding me back (only got it to 1672 Mhz so far). Must get me some 2700 Ram for my KX7, its a pity it'l only let me go to 1.85V tho :( :p

I think its just not possible to make a graph unless you have controlled atmospheric conditions. Too many variables to take into account when its just sitting somewhere in your house.

Official summer doesn't start till December as far as I know, so we aren't even a 1/3 through Summer yet.

But yeh, isn't there still skiing on Ruapahue till early in the new year?

Well I'm sitting at 38/31 at the moment with my V7+ on median.

Which is lower than it usually is. If I drop it down to low it'll go back up to ~46ºc though.

62/50 I'd say my GA in socket probe gives high temps to compensate how innaccurate in socket probes are

XP1700+ @ 1700 (200x8.5) @ 1.9V with an SLK-800 and PAPST 80mm fan, running 24x7 100% load, peaks out at 48c (around 22c above room temp).

Nice and quiet, the SLK-800 is a kick arse cooler!

You must be running air-con for that room temp in aussie. I think you need some more efficiency on that HSF. A delta of 22º is too high. You need to get it down by 4-6º. Have you lapped that HSF? Are you using Artic Silver or anything?

mird-OC
29-12-2002, 02:43 PM
a delta of 22C is actually pretty realistic for an aircooler, IMO. anyone claiming a delta of much less than 20C on air is living in la-la land.

So how are our temperatures going?

My 1800 XP @ 2000 XP (Watercooled) has gone from mid 30's to mid/high 40's. Radiator fans still on 5 volts.

Made myself a waterblock for the Triplex GF4 Ti 4200 - 3.3ns. Copper/perspex combination. Hans review says it all - good vid card with a rubbish cooling solution (it isn't a solution).

The Thermal paste application was very poor (nonexistant in places) and the fan is noisy. I chose this card (performance/price) knowing this and intending to watercool it.

Anyway measuring at the back of the chip my homemade effort dropped the temperature by 15 degrees. Currently running in the high 40's.

XP 1800+ currently non-overclocked, temps running at 43°C at the moment.
It was pushing 55°C this afternoon. Im now running with no sides on the case, and all fans on full throttle.
And then to top it off it pissed down with rain about 20 minutes ago, its like a freaking sauna in here and it aint pleasant.

I really have to get my rig wet.

My 1700 (1433 oced to 1650mhz) is currently at 44deg with fans on a low something slow. By adjusting my papst fans abit I can get down to less than 40 with little change in noise :p

SecretSquirrel

Well...

My temps are high, but they according to the motherboard, they are on die temps...

Idle of 56-58 dependant on the days temp of course, plus this house is MUCHO hot all the damn time!! And I get 60-62 load.

Not worried a bit, its running nice at 1812MHz and stable as your mother, the temps are probably closer to 45 load really...

To calculate what to expect for other CPUs, for every watt the CPU radiates, the heatsink will cool the core by the (C/W x watts) plus ambient temp. For example, at a fan inlet temp of 25 C, a C/W of 0.25 with a CPU radiating 50 watts means that the CPU temp will be 50 x 0.25 = 12.5 C over ambient temp, or 37.5 C
(from www.overclockers.com)
SandraSisoft should show you your rated Core Power
Your mobo temp
Your CPU temp
and your C/W
Working out what to expect with certain case temperatures you should be able to approximately work out from there its not very hard
I have a Case temp of 35-37 degrees mostly and the Duron at 1.4-1.45ghz doesnt exceed 48degrees. But im a newb what do i know.....

Blitzkrieg

I dont need that page
As I said the info sandra provides is all you need
and the equation is so simple it takes a matter of seconds to work it out in your head. I dont need a page to do such simple mathematics for me, dont know about others........

example

C/W in sandra = .4
ambient air temp increases 5 degrees
therefore u should get a 2 degrees increase in temp
tho it isnt perfectly linear(obviously)
struggle to do .4x5 in your head?
for those that dont have sandra or have sandra but no motherboard temp, gutted for you.

What models are your fans???
Sounds like I might be needing some of those too:
My palomino XP2000+ @ 12.5x152.
It is quite stable, but the temperature in CHCH at the moment is like 15 degrees, it's so bloody cold.
So I'm currently happy with my CPU at 51degrees, and my northbridge at 27degrees.
But just a couple of days ago, ambient temperature was about 26 degrees, and my CPU was going at 53 NOT occlocked, although my northbridge was at 20degrees.

i get 43*C under load and my fans on low and my water temp is 35*C

when my fans are on high i can pull it down to 40*C underload with the water temp down to 29 *C

All my reading have been conducted when the ambient air temp is 25*c

My readings are coming via thermal probe that is touching the side of the core so the reading should be real accurate

/edit my temps changed because i upped my vcore by 0.025 and ocd my xp1800 to xp2100 speeds

i noticed the higher vcore stabilises my whole system alot, i sometimes got randome lock ups even tho i could run sisoft sandras burn in test for 1:30 hrs

I tightend the ice creem container seal that doesnt quite fit between the fan and dad and fu*k me my temps dropped.

With my fans on full and the ambiant air temp at 24*C i managed to get the cpu temp down to 36*c and the water temp down to the high 25's to the 26's (*C)

with the fans on low the cpu temp gets upto 40*C under load the temp probe flicks between 39.6 and 40 and my water temps get to 30*C

Quite a nice diff with just a few changes eh?

i mesurd my nb temp and it is 46~47*c it gets hotter than this because i can keep my fingers on it atm.
