This the [OCNZ] clan page. There may or may not be a site with info on tournaments and the like in the future.

The OCNZ clan isn't limited to any game or even genre. It is not a 'pro' clan, where getting in or staying in are based on performance in any online or networked game. It is more a method of advertising the NZ overclocking scene, and your affiliation to the OCNZ forums. I've been asked the leading "what does OCNZ stand for?" question now several times, and it allows others here in New Zealand to realise that there is an active overclocking scene right here.

In case you're wondering, if you're here, you're eligable. Having said that, if you turn out to be a spamming, abusive player banned on half the NZ servers - don't expect to stay on the list ;). While there are obviously times of extreme frustration in any game, we expect a certain level of behaviour, which is mostly just plain common-sense. Your gaming commandments:


Thou shalt not spam (communication good, spamming bad)
Thou shalt not flame (don't express frustration by swearing and becoming abusive)
Thou shalt not TK (kill baddy not goody)
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbours mad skillz (don't winge about cheaters - accept it when others are better than you)
Thou shalt p1mp thy clan (if someone asks, tell them what 'OCNZ' means)
Thou shalt be the ub3r-backup (people enjoy playing with those that help them out)
Thou shalt enjoy the eternal game! (duh! guess...)


As a result, note that if your handle/nick isn't listed immediately below, then you're NOT IN THE CLAN. If somebody who isn't on this list is using the clan tag, then they DON'T REPRESENT [OCNZ]. Unfortunately, there is little or nothing that we can do about people not in the clan using our tag.

If you ask to get in, and are wondering if you are - check this post. As there are a large number of people in the clan, I feel it would simply flood the thread by replying to every request to join. However, note that if you are DENIED access to the clan ( it can happen ), then you WILL be told via the PM system. So just check this post a few days after you've asked ( I often actually snoop around servers to see just what people's gaming attitudes are before adding them to the list ), and don't worry if you're not on.... yet ;).

One last thing - if colors are available, the '[OCNZ]' should be red/blue, like the OCNZ logo. ( [OCNZ] ) . So in Quake3/DOOM3 engine based games ( Q3, MoHAA, RTCW, JK2, SOF2 etc ), just type in [^1OC^4NZ^0] instead of [OCNZ] .

The coloring was originally black brackets with a red OC and a blue NZ, cos it looked similar to the background coloring on the old OCNZ logo.

Of course, just about anything red blue and black is good, as they're the OCNZ colors and all... :D

ATM the clan is largely informal. It IS likely however, that it will slowly morph into a more organised structure. More will come, but if you really want to see something - feel free to go out and do it. We're more than happy to let you hold LAN's. :D

Seriously - a little gets played, but I ( and several others ) DON'T HAVE CS. In ANY form or shape. I used to own half-life, but sold that ( it was a sound-card bundle game ).

And CS has only been on any hard-drive in my machine for a total of some 10 hours - L3#2 ( was OK - but old, looked way plain, felt clumsy, got deleted ).

It's old. Get over it. But don't worry - even CS fans come away from my LAN's without having missed it's prescence. Seriously, once you get into a whole lot of the newer games, and have a bash at those with 20 guys ( and no, there ARE no cheats usable in most newer games, so that's never even an issue ) - you'll forget all about CS.

It would be good to finally see you though - you're one of the few ChCh members I haven't met ( glares at GFL, Bullchicken and Oiad..... :D ). Or are you another ( number 3 IIRC ) that works weekends?

Don't listen to him, if you want to play cs you will usually be able to find some people to give it a blast. Just don't expect to sit there all lan playing cs cause you won't be able to hold anyones interest that long.

Don't worry about Binky, he is an anti CS fanatic who just sits there copying cds all lan :p :p :p

But you will find that CS dosen't really work well at lans if you arn't playing in clan teams, which you won't be doing at an L3.

If you wan't to start trying to enforce things you will have to make it harder to join the clan and more formal. Its not as if OCNZ is a serious clan anyway. We only really compete at lans and the like.

Now I'm not suggesting to make the clan more serious. Its just that if the only criteria for membership is that you have joined the forums its going to be very hard to avoid having people that have very little to do with the forum scene running round using the tag.

Dare I say it there needs to be an extra criteria for joining, mabey even... dare I say it... post count Nothing huge mind you just enough spam free posts to show that someone actually wants to be involved with us.

Ranking would NOT be based on the outcome of any single game ( or even a single tournament or LAN ). I know gamers have up and down days - I do too ( I know you're all amazed that it's possible that I'm not 0wnzing j00 all, but seriously, at least once a year!! ;) ).

And HELL NO it wouldn't be based on postcount.

If their were ranks there would only likely be 2, 3 or 4 ranks, and they'd be large classes ( officer heavy, if you will ).

Example:

New members etc: PVT.
Others: NCO.

Example 2:

New members etc: PVT.
Older members split between LT and GEN.

....I was never intending a full PVT/LC-CPRL/CPRL/LT/SGT/COL/GEN/MAR/FMAR ranking system ( lol :D ).

Ranks could be added to tags as chevrons before the clan tag. Eg:

Or...now heres a crazy idea, just bare with me here for a second...have two clan tags.
1. [OCNZ] - the OCNZ community tag, that casual players/members use.

2. Some kind of 'OCNZ Elite' tag or something (not 'elite' though, because that gives the impression that someones better than someone else here, which we dont want) - given to the players that actively kick other clan players square in the nuts. Figuratively of course. ;) I mean, players that take the time to play in clan matches, organise practices, get some mad teamwork going that kind of thing.

Just a thought.

True dat Sydog, medics are one of the most under-used and under-rated classes on the servers. I was a grunt, hard charging on foot with a couple of others on an Xtra server on Sunday, and I guarantee we wouldnt have won that game if it wasnt for the medic who kept doing his job.
He didnt run away to do his own thing, driving tanks or trying to find a plane, he kept with us healing, hiding and even capping the odd enemy that we missed. I think it was someone from -MB-, I didnt really take note - he was just 'that f'ing good medic'. :)
Anyway, my point is, that a good player as a medic can really help his side. He might not get the most points, but thats not the goal - the goal is to win, and they help to no end.

At L3 in BF1942 I was a medic. I would get on average 3 or 4 kills per death, and on a good run 7 or 8.

The same is true in RTCW - I go medic. As long as I've got a good LT to give me ammo, I'll take a lot of people down before they get me. And even if they don't give me ammo, I'm deadly. They'll slaughter 4 of my guys, then bingo, gimme 5 sec's and I've re-spawned them all!

Positions probably vary from game to game. I know at L3 it worked out well ( a couple of guys - Binky, Sydog IIRC ) were good tanks, a couple were good pilots, a couple were good snipers, etc. But if it doesn't, for the sake of team balance, you normally have to work out positions per match.

Currently ( bar one or two names *looks at Disco* :p ), the list is in the order of signing up. So ranking probably wouldn't deviate much from 'first X in list' style ( well, not MUCH ).

Meh! It's just an idea. [OCNZ] isn't a pro-clan in as much as you have to be a 1337 gamer to get in. It's more ( as stated in the first post! OMG, who'd a guessed it? ) a method of advertising the NZ overclocking, modding, g33king etc community. It's been quite effective at doing just that, with many of the members here being members here after seeing [OCNZ]'s online. ( I know, because a few were RTCW players I know ;) )

The only reason it talks about Q3 etc is that those games all use the same engine, and they allow players to not only enter a name to use, but also any color-scheme for that name. i'm a member (meaning i have 30-sumthing posts) and have been around since October. ok ok, most have been in the troubleshooting/b,s&e forums, but thats cause i been soaking up all the computer stuff u guys know and i didn't want to sound like an idiot.

i'll be getting onto games like BF1942 and UT2003 and such as soon as i get my new system up and running (hopefully b4 equinox so i can be a noob @ BF1942 :p). The limiting factor: a 10 GB HDD. Which means very limited gaming options. Which means GODDAMN IT!

But that should be remedied after EQX with sum serious HDD upgrades :D

Feel free to use overclockers.nz|, but it won't become the standard anytime soon. A lot of games limit name lengths to 12 or 16 characters, so you really want clan tags that are quite brief ( or you never get enough space to actually put in your name! ).

Yeah, from the first post:

The OCNZ clan isn't limited to any game or even genre. It is not a 'pro' clan, where getting in or staying in are based on performance in any online or networked game. It is more a method of advertising the NZ overclocking scene, and your affiliation to the OCNZ forums.

However, being an |o-bot| isn't far different AFAIK - they seem to alias up in multiple games and genre's, and I'm not sure - but the clan itself may actively compete in quite a range of games now ( now just Tribes :D ).

I still use my [OCNZ] tags often - I'm in -nRv- for RTCW ( and now also MaN| for RTCW:ET :o ) - but in SOFII, BF42, and even RTCW sometimes, I still use the tag. It is, after all - more of a social clan ( and my clan-matches of RTCW are hardly social ;) ).

Still, if you're clanned in the only games you ever play....

Maybe (as an idea) since you guys have a minimum limit for newbies to post before they can do the buy sell stuff, you can extend that idea.

Perhaps if people have a minimum number of posts then they could be aloud to use the OCNZ logo. being that they are also contributing to the forum.

Not sure how much wizzy coding it would require, but perhaps also having a min number of posts per month (say 1 or 2), just so you know they are active.

Then perhaps if they have met this requirement you could display [ocnz] next to their nick when they post/login. So they and we know they can use the logo. :)

Or another idea, might be to put an 'I wanna use the OCNZ logo' check box in the users profile settings. The user checks this, and (maybe the mod has to approve it), then from then on [ocnz] appears next to their nick so they know they can use it.
