I had a problem with my adsl which was caused by a certain cordelss phone in our house interfering with the signal. One new phone later and the problem was solved. It only happened when the phone was in use however. It might be worth checking out. I'm not sure what model the phone was but it was a sanyo.

ADSL can be quite sensitive to things like flaky wiring in your house too.

OK - 2 types of disconnect.

Random - these are IP changes. Telecom does this to ALL Jetstart customers randomly. I'm in a bad spot of the grid - my IP gets changed every day, sometimes several times a day ( record is 6 ). Some people only get this every week or two. One of the reasons for doing this is so people don't run servers off their Jetstart connections ( which is not allowed under the contract ). It's normal. Live with it :(.

Synced with phones etc - EVERY, and I mean EVERY MOFO non-DSL device absolutely MUST be filtered. If you have 21 phones on separate branches of the line, then you're gonna need 21 filters ( though arguably one source filter and amp for all the phones would be a better alternative ;) ). If ANY non-DSL is not filtered, it will disconnect your line. That's what mashed is talking about. And that includes faxes ;).

....but then, you'd already know that if you've read all the stuff Telecom sent you before you got hooked up, right? :p :D

Not quite Kj, my house has a central splitter, it was the radio interference from the base station of the cordless phone that was disconnecting jetstart. It was sitting about 1m away from the primary jackpoint in the house. The new phone we have (decked) is fine.

there is also another thing with ADSL in NZ termed a "micro outage"

Telecom are getting **** for it all over the place the largest exponent of which is Juha Saarinen from PC world hes been petitioning telecom under the logic that he paid for a connection and has not been given what he paid for i.e the service is faulty and therfore he should be refunded

its an interesting battle

There was a guy a while back who got a whole heap of jetstream charges refunded cause he proved that micro outages cancelled his downloads. I'm not sure of the specifics though.

I would say it would be your isp that is doing that becasue my record is 0 for that last 8 month that i have had jestart and i do not pay for a static IP and getting back to the topic i had a phone here that was playing up with my ASDL here with the phone rang it wood dorp me off the net

I randomly get IP changes, but I dont get disconnected. The little diagnostic tool for my X T REAM ly cheap DSL modem tells me how many times it has 'retrained' which I am presuming is changing of the gua...er IP, because when it went from 0 to 1 one day, I noticed the IP I was giving out to people was suddenly not the same one :)

Also, some cordless phones just wont work properly with ADSL, its just fate. Get a new one, live life to the MAXXX with porn and beer.

I bought the Dick Smith filters, and I have a crappy cheap cordless (Uniden DX834r) and have had no issues (except from fvcking up the drivers so now I have to 'reinstall' the modem each time I reboot)

Live long, and phosphor.

Nokia Splitter installed at the ETP. no need for filters.

A splitter is the way to go if you have lots of devices that use your phone line. Unless you are going to need to be able to get dsl from several different jackpoints in your house.

...AND unless you're going to move where the phones and DSL devices are.

AND I was under the impression that a splitter box can only handle up to 5 outputs....
( as in FILTERS are the way to go for lots of devices )

It can KJ, but it is a bit of a ***** to install usually. Also a splittered jackpont is ADSL only and cannot be used for voice.
