wha?

can you turn hyper threadin off so you can compare between the two?

I put it in my bits box with some other stuff till I find time to set it up. Probably end of next week.

Personally am expecting a tadge more performance that a 2.8, but have a small app to write for hyper-threading.

Damnit, dont go teasing with that 'I have a new toy' stuff, then tell us you'll maybe get around to cranking it next week.

We want hard facts and lots of pics of smoking CPU's, get onto it! Stay up all night if you have to! ;) :p

I hear that with Ht enabled these puppies get real hot, as in making a thunderbird look like a chiller unit. Intel says that when the new 0.9 micron cores come out it won't be so bad, but still it will only help so much...

I was taking the preverbial.. Actually - artific's machine looks quite good - can see it from my desk, would look better if the neons went back in.

mainboard arrives in morning.

so does just about everything else.

cept the case, which is currently walking from china by the sound of things.

oh, btw.. the 3.6s come with thermaltake cooler.. huuuge.

have an interesting read this month on the hyperthreading - depending on what you do (ie software) you could be in for a performance DEcrease....

nope - still waiting on the ram to turn up, so havn't bothered cobbling a system together.

90% of the machine was ordered in from overseas and turned up within 2 to 5 days of placing the order. No hassle, no worries.

The 10% I have had to order here have so far taken a month to get organised and I have heard nothing about what progress is being made.

Apart from the two major nz suppliers which have been very good and professional - the rest has been way below even the basic standards one would expect.

This has a big impact on what people think of the local market and I will leave it all to you folks to work out what I currently think of the NZ market.

Anyway, enough of me complaining, I'm just in a grumpy mood at the moment.

Out of interest I actually sell Intel boxed product, including CPUs - although I am not set up to handle consumer purchases and support, but could probably work someting out if I got hassled enough.

I guess I would probably sell a 3.06 at around $1680 - $1700 inc gst - not really sure. Usually get consumer purchases to go through the regular dealers.

Anyhow just thoughts.

I see the new Dell Dimension 8250's have P4 3.06's in them. They also have 256mb of PC1066 RDRAM.

Then they go and do the most heinous crime known to man.... they put a GF4 MX420 in the system. i was like WTF!?

Tiggerz

and only 256mb ram.. is like tying one leg behind your back and trying to run fast.

anyhow, finally got off my butt and put the system together yesterday. Just awaiting ram and psu now.

Yeah well.... they gotta make it look good while making it fairly cost effective.

They will make the most cash on the upgrades though.... I'll bet that's what their plan is.

I use a Dell Optiplex 260 at work. Its a P4 1.8ghz with 512 DDR and 32mb onboard vid. Did a 3D 2001 benchmark got 1300 back. Wasn't designed to be no gaming rig but still worth a laugh.

Our lease expires on the PCs this year and the new manager is a gamer so hopefully get some better vid cards in the next batch.

Can see the work place lanning now. "Work place attendance has sky rocketed to 100% for one month straight, coincidentally ever since we got the new systems in." :D
