Hi guys,

Well for about the last week i've been helping my uncle with his Lan Table.
He wanted to beable to have a case that held his 2 pc's (1 file server & 1 gaming machine) and he also wanted to have a table that was customized for him.
So the answer was to build a lan table that:

a) was portable
b) held 2 PC's
c) was easy to set up at lans etc.

So after much discussion and planning, the building began...

The basic structure:

We stayed up till 6:30am on the friday before t-cosy just so we could get it "workable" for the lan.

Still need to mount a dvd drive, fix up the networking, do some more painting, add some led's on the front, maybe put in 2 windows and add some neons, and basically tidy everything up (e.g loooooom).

I have a suggestion, why not mount a switch inside for the networking side of it? All you need is a couple of short cables to the two computers, and everyone else can plug in to the back of your case.

My friend has an 8 port hub mounted in the back of his tower, vertically "above" the expansion slots, so there's no hub lying all over the floor, everyone just plugs into his machine. Also he has rewired the power cable to have a molex on the end of it and just runs it off one of his power supplies inside :) The only outside cable is the one from his card to the hub...

Man took me 2:50 minutes to load this page dialup :(
But looks awesome man, Its a great idea I reckon, but definitley needs a paint job, and some LED's on the front would make it look sweet:D

Nice one man - I'll bet that turned a few heads. Heh, screw that - I'll bet half the LAN crowded round to see what the hell you two were trying to lugg in... :D

I suppose you could attach CD wallets/holders, drink holders - about anything to that. Throw it in the car, and away you go!

Hmmm, so many cool ideas floating around ATM, and here's /me with no time... :(

Portable, the only way that thing would be portable is with buit on wheels and road registration ;)

What happens when it comes to a LAN where they provide the tables.

Don't you just sit it on top of a table .. or is it a table already? I am hoping to do something similiar but I've blown all my money on computer parts ... looks like I am stuck with just lugging my pc around now!

I was thinking of a lan pipe at one stage. Everyone will be given a switchboard with two RJ45 ports and about four 3-socket plugs. That way people just bring short LAN cables and have powered supplied to them [ with fuses :) ]. We'd do a lot of looming and presto, a neater lan with slightly less cables around the place.

Might build some of these in my holidays.

We have a 2 port rj45 wall socket on the side of the case, the 2 network cards are hard wired to that.
So its just 2 utp cables going to the hub/switch.

Yup its a table, all it requires is 1 normal power cable which feeds an internal 6 plug multibox.

Damn thats sweet :)

Where will you put the windows? small narrow ones on the sides? or couple of larger ones looking in from top?

Yeah the 2 top panels either side of the monitor are detachable so we thought a window above each mobo will be cool.
