And if so, good? Bad? Its reasonably priced, so I might get it over a cheapy board such as Gigabyte...

Any comments, cheers.

ASUS make good solid boards, fairly overclocker friendly, however I don't know anybody with one, nor have heard of anyone in the forums with one..

The simple reason the ASUS boards are hell pricey in NZ for some reason.

I'd say most people who have a KT333 board round have the Epox 8K3A or the el cheapo Soltek DRV5.

For best price and the best bios options for increasing voltage I'd go for the Epox... For maximum repect I'd go for the Abit KX7333 which should be here by now.

Hmm ok, the only reason I asked was because it was $330 incl.

However, it looks like it MAY be the Epox avec soundcard.

$330 donga's that's not bad, but compared to..$270 for the Epox 8K3A+ (has RAID)

That's 60 donga's towards a soundcard yay

hahah donga...now THERE is a word misappropriated for other less sanitary units.

I agree with you actually...I will have to look a bit more at the Epox now ;)

hehe yes it always pays to be careful before laying your donga(s) on the line..

Only negative features of the epox board I can think of are that the powersupply connector could be in a better place ... and the bottom two IDE connectors (the highpoint RAID ones) could be too far away for someone with short IDE cables, or a big tower case where the hard drives are up high up..

If I was upgrading that's what I'd get.. since it still says coming soon for the Abit KX7333 @ JB's

Those damn freeloading boat people will be here before the Abit KX7. :mad:

But personally I would go for teh Epox over teh ASUS.

I had the A7A266 mboard. I believe the A7V266 is just an updated version of that. That board is a good solid board... i'd recommend it. You might want to check all the drivers for it though because my A7A266 was unstable with the stanard Windows drivers for it's chipset. I got the new chipset drivers and an oldish AGP driver. The oldish AGP driver was more stable than the rest.

it constantly crashed, the raid kept stuffing up and it had wonderful issues of rebooting randomly in games :(

i owned an A7V266E
and now have a A7V266EX

and the solution to your problem is using a better BIOS, some BIOSes do the thing you wrote down there, so it's a shame you had a bad experience, i used a Soltek DRV5 too and found it way harder for OCing compared to my ASUS.

trust me i tried diff bios, o/s's drivers the lot and it still did the same crap regardless :(

i was hoppin to buy one of these, mainly because of the onbaord IEEE and 6xchan sound, but am now having 2nd thoughts, any decent boards with onboard IEEE? it just seems cheaper to buy the a7v333 then to buy a mobo+6x snd card+ieee+raid card...

Yeah - if SSnake feels like fessing up, he had stability issues with his ASUS board for aaagggeeessss..... and never got that rig right.

Me? I'll never buy ASUS - they're wallhack driver releasing b*stards!! :mad: AND they're overpriced.... so it's Abit all the way!! :D

Aye? Aye? Yes I did have problems, and it had problems for aaaagggeeesss ... but I did fix that board in the end, and now it is pretty rock stable with Windows XP installed on to it. It never died at any lans after UCL, and in L3 #3 it performed pretty darn good :D

hmm, let me see, I have an ASUS and it's really stable running at stock, once I start OCing, the system might be unstable, but it's not because of the board,

as for drivers, just use the latest VIA ones for chipset,
they put out a new BIOS every week,
so I can't see anything wrong with that,

it looks like people are just unlucky with stability and then they go around and badmouth ASUS, :P

If someone offered me another KT266A board to change with mine, I wouldn't change it, cause I don't have any problems with my ASUS.

A7A266!? The A7A266 had an Ali Magik chipset as far as I know.......

In the old days there were:

A7M266 = AMD761
A7V266 = KT266
A7A266 = Ali Magik

Where for art thou Hans? ;)

Oop tee doo ... I forget A stands for Asus, then the 7 stands for something, then it can be A for ALi chipset, then V for Via and then S for SiS and then the last three numbers for memory speed... I think.

Apologies, but I still reackon ASUS is a good brand, even though they are horribly over priced for what they do.

For AMD mobo's:

A = AMD Athlon

7 = 7th generation

V = Via
A = Ali
M = AMD
N = nVidia

For Intel mobo's (excluding the old sckt370):

P4 = P4

S = Sis
B = 845
T = 850

pretty simple if you think about it.

ASUS have always been a little inconsistant as far as reliability across their lines. they may have a particular board do very well, but at the same time have another board sucking ass. it's always been like that with ASUS, yet their prices don't reflect it.

mind you the asus boards I've worked with that have been unstable have been able to be fixed with a new bios.

My old A7V was a b1tch at first, but a simple flash made it the most stable board I ever owned.

Ive got the Asus A7V333 board in my comp. Its workin good except my 2100+ CPU is running too hot and it doesnt seem like the stock HSF is doing its job. I hear a Volcano 7+ callin my name.

The A7V333 was a godsend for me. I had an Abit KR7A-Raid and I couldn't get it stable... mind you I have a LOT of hardware in the box.

Installed A7V333 and it's stable, and linux installed, and WinXP installed. I don't agree with some of the comments in the other thread, you can use the rounded IDE cables.

And Impy, get a TAK68, you will not regret it. ATM my machine is running with 21c Board and 34c CPU with an XP 2100+.

My two cents. For your info I have the following hardware in this box.

Asus A7V333
2 x Erriccson 20gig 7200rpm IBM Drives in RAID 0
DTLA-30375(76gig) 7200rpm
DDYs-3690 (36gig Ultra 160 SCSI)
Plextor PX2410A
Plextor Ultra Plex 50x SCSI CD Rom
Pioneer DVD 106s DVD Rom
Matrox Parhelia GFX Card
Adaptec Ultra 160 SCSI Card
Hauppauge PVR
3com 3c905c
2 x Corsair PC2700 256mb DIMM

And 5 of the 6 USB attached.
