i've got a Leadtek GeForce2 MX400 64mb sdram, and i was wondering how high i can o/c it. Its at 200 core and 334mem (default at the moment).
I've got a titan vga cooler and artic silver adhesive on it so that might help a bit.
Im a little new to o/c'ing video cards so keep the english to a newbie level. :)

It's obviously a DDR version MX400 ( 64-bit DDR RAM ). The default speeds for an MX400 include a 175MHz core ( not 200MHz ). In other words, Leadtek have already OCd the core for you a bit.

OK, with an MX just forget about the core - 200+ is cool, but the core means bugger all. It's the RAM that you need to get as high as possible.

I know Hans got his Leadtek's memory up to 250+ MHz ( 260MHz IIRC? ). That was the 128-bit SDR version though, so I'm not sure how yours will do.

400MHz RAM would be reasonable, 450MHz good and 500MHz+ exceptional ( if you want that, you may need RAMsinks and lots of luck :D ).

Give it a spin at 400 first and see how it goes. Then inch up in slower and slower increments. If you get weird colored pixels in your desktop or the computer locks up - you've gone way too far :D.

The 64MB version of GF2 MX will always report the memory higher than what they actually are, i.e. doubled. That's why you see 334MHz, it's actually 166 MHz. It's a driver bug since the Det 6.5 age, I've no idea why Nvidia won't fix it.

As for your overclocking:

Check out what's your ram spec, i.e. ns. Usually they are good till 200~210 range, 400~420 in your case. My strange Leadtek GF2 MX SH-Pro can achieve a clock rate of 225Core/275Memory. You may want to update the card's BIOS. I got a higher oc after the update.

Don't worry about the core too much since the bottleneck of GF2 MX is memory bandwidth.

Sorry i forgot to add that its an SH MAX, if that makes any difference :)

I'll try to take the mem up to 400 and see what happens.

Cheers guys.

okay, how about this - i have a piece of string sitting here, and i want you to tell me how long it is.

:)

(the point is i'm the only one who can find out, so there's really no point me asking you because you can't tell me)
