OK so I've decided to get some new speakers for the comp, I found these ones that look pretty fat:

Any one got these? The reviews I've read look good, but I don't know much about speakers. http://www.technoyard.com/hardware/audio-devices/j9940/page_1.html

These are retailing for:

$560 without decoder http://www.jazzspeakers.com/products/J9940.htm

Or

$815 with a decoder http://www.jazzspeakers.com/products/J9940B.htm

I want to run them from my comp:

1800+ XP
512 Generic DDR
GF4 Ti 4200
SndBlstrLv! 5.1

Is the decoder worth it?
Or should I flag computer stores for speakers and go to a farmers etc and start looking at woofindales etc?

your SB live should be able to handle all the decoding, and arguably the best PC speakers outthere are the Logitec Z-680... ecept they are hard to find - Ascent (http://www.ascent.co.nz/mn-product-spec.asp?pid=109593) stocks have them listed but no ETA

Ask John @ stylespc about em, he should be getting them in shortly (the logitec's that is)]

Id take the logitec's over any jazz...

As pretty and nice sounding as the specs are on some of the higher end Jazz speakers, I wouldn't touch them with a 40ft sh*tty speaker touching pole.
From personal experience, any speaker that carries the name 'Jazz' will be forever burned into my memory as a horrible quality, bad sounding piece of junk. Others may have had better experiences, but i doubt it.

I use a set of Logitech Z560 4.1's at the moment, and I love them. Awesomely loud, and pretty gosh darn good quality IMO.
After my system upgrade early next year, Im upgrading them to a set of the new Z680 5.1's, which look positively awesome.

OK sweet, cheers saved me wasting 800$ :)

Read some reviews of the Logiteks and they sound a litle better.

Those Jazz speakers are getting a lot of good reviews though

yeah apparently these speakers are pretty good. i guess it's never too late for a crap company to release a good product ;)

i mean, logitech released some pretty gawd awful stuff before they bucked their ideas up...

OK, looking for online reviews is always a good idea, BUT:

REMEMBER THAT ANY OLD IDIOT CAN TYPE UP AN HTML PAGE AND PUT IT ON THE WEB ;)

....so just because there's a review out there that likes something doesn't mean it's all good. As such, you've ( unfortunately ) gotta know a little bit about the reputation and level of obsession that the review site in question has about the product type you're investigating.

Technoyard may be a great place, I dunno. But I've never heard huge praise about them re: speakers. These guys, though, are a different matter:

Notice the brand names. Cambridge Soundworks ( Creative  ), Yamaha, Klipsche, VideoLogic, Midiland, Monsoon, Polk, Boston Acoustics.....

And look who's missing. Genius, KTX, Sony, Jazz......

;)

Just a thought :)
