Yeah, fix what's causing the crashes ;).
Seriously man, getting rid of automatic system integrity checks so you can manually run your kernal into the ground isn't exactly the right way to administer a computer....

Well, nothings really crashing, it just annoys me when im OCing, and go that little bit to far. And for some reason it seems to do it every now and then even though i rebooted properly, and nothings gone wrong. Is that usual?

Not "usual" no, but can quite easily happen in an overclocked system, if you are running your Front Side Bus out of spec, you are also running your IDE headers out of spec. Hard drives can quite easily get in a snitch with you in these situations :)

Does it shut down properly? Has it ever not done so and resetted instead?
It could be the OS halting at something it can't process, seeing as you oc a bit too far. Or your high enough oc that makes winblows think it's stuffed up.
I have seen this on a WinME rig though but it actually was due to the rig screwing up when resetting or shutting down.

I take it you are using FAT32 ... you might want to look into using NTFS then you wont have to deal with those scans on restart + there are lots of other benifits to using it as well.... only downside is no dos access but thats not usaully a biggee

Yea, im using FAT32, only because i have been told NTFS is heaps slower...dunno if its true or not.
Yes, it does reset sometimes coz of my inadequate PSU (yes im getting a newie soon), and i am running the fsb outta spec (around 180mhz), but that should really cause that much instability should it? I am using the 1/5pci divider.
Cheers Mird for that.

From my own personal experience I would say there is no decernable difference in speed..... some people say it is slower, some faster.... my benchmarks say it is about the same, so I use it because after you have lost the odd install due to a FAT32 partition becoming corrupt it starts to make sense.

I found NTFS felt faster....but i did a big FAT32-> NTFS change when i got my DRV4, so part of that could be attributed to the improved IDE controler in the KT333 chipset.

also some of the features of NTFS like the indexing can actually slow it down quite a bit but they are easy to disable...... the last access stamp is another that can be disabled to increase performance

I have a 1/4 of the HD as fat32 and also use this partiton for all temp operations - ie cache, system temp, my user profile temp... i though to myself how clever u be, then i found out linux been doing this forever hehehe
But yeah NTFS as for primary boot partition, FAT32 somewhere for dos compatibility - as for speed no diff as far as i can see.
