The PCB come in a kit, have to soder all the bit and pieces on you own... but I think it come out alright....
does it change speed acording to anything, or does it go like that forever,
it's pretty cool,
if you could somehow, make it go faster whenever there is HDD access, that would be even better, :D ;)

tofu's PC in the case thread has it... :p he's had it since last year :p
not worth $30 tho
(he made his one himself)
they presold ones are kinda ghey coz you have to fill the while row with LEDs or else it skips the empty one and goes to the next one, which slows down the speed...
you got them from jaycar, right?

the premade ones blow, the ic'll overheat if you use ultrabrights, and they wont be that bright either... I hate a mate make me one with amplifiers for the led's, not knightrider tyle tho.... finnished the casew bezel, but haven't paonted the sides yet

got the kit from DSE.... for around 32 dollars.....
the speed can be adjust manually only.....
dunno about the overheat...
but can not afford 16 bright blue led yet..
(8 dollars for 1, 128 bucks!!!)
anyone know where I can get blue led cheap??

well, if you're in auckky, theres a place in auckky called surplustronics, which they sell for $3.50 each...
my dad's mate can get heaps of electrnic gadgets wholesale... was gonna ask him about LEDs. i'll tell ya how much i can get them for (if he can, and if they're cheaper) and we could come up with a del :)

yeah,
or to save you the trouble of walking up queen street trying to find it,
it's right at the top of Queen street, up by K road, on the east side of queen street.,
also, if you wan't heaps of LED's in a row, wouldn't it be better to buy something like one of those things which has 20 or so LED's stuck toghter, kinnda like on digital tacho's, can't remember the name,

Thanks everybody.......
my plan was to wire one of these up to the hdd activity switch, so its off, but when the hdd starts activity it will go back and forth...

Now all you need to do is put a capacitor beind each LED so that instead of just 1 LED on, when it switchs it off it dims, leaving abit of a trail, not just one light going :)

does anyone know what size capacitor should I use or try?? THANKS!!
just grab some little capacitors, like say 22uF and try it out, and see how long it goes for, you probably wan't even less like around a couple of uF.
cause it depends on how long you wan't the trail,

That would look real |eet;)

does it mean the great the uf value, the longer it will light up??
what about the wv??
what does it mean and what it does?
THANKS!!

Yes thats right, but it wouldn't suprise me if you need nF, as in nano Farahads. I think uF will still be too big.

If the capacitor is going directly across the led you will need more like 200uF or more for each led. I've got a power supply with 8800uf of capacitors running 20leds so that is 440uf per led and it goes out within 1/2 second when i turn it off. That is running the electronics for the display aswell so it will be a bit less than 440uf each in reality.
ok, I'm gonna have to try out some caps and LED's now, I'll post back later and see how it goes,

You may be assuming too much. Are all the capacitors providing output filtering? Are there any discharge resistors in the circuit for when it is switched off? What feeback circuitry is there that may also use power when you switch off the PSU. Who knows, you may be right too, lets see what N comes back with.
Also if the capacitors are too large, they may draw excessive current from the driving IC in the LED circuit and may damage the IC. If you read the specs of the IC it should have ID for drain current, which may only be enough to drive 1 LED, not charge up a big capacitor as well.

what about the "wv" value??
anyone know what it mean?
looking forward to see what N come up with....
i grabed a 3V battery,
one LED
and one 220uF 50V cap
and it didn't do anything, which is very strange,
blocks DC if connected wrong, but didn't keep it alight at all (it turns on the LED alright, but as soon as you disconect it goes off), I'll try later on again with a PSU instead of battery,

Please tell me you connected it in parallel N. If not try again.
yep, I connected in parallel, at first i thought i can charge up the cap and then disgharge it over the LED, but it didn't seem to work, I'll try again today,
can an LED fade to ON using this method?
