well ive looked at peilters for a bit i can afford them but i want opinions from people who have used them are they any good whats involved etc
cheers
well... unless you're ready to get a rad with really good cooling, and into serious o/cing, its not really worth getting it...
right now i'm stuck here thinking if i should get rid of the pelt, or get a better rad to use it to the full potential. :(
saying that - you'd possibly have to spend more on a better rad, and/or having to get a copper block.

if you've got a P4 - maybe... otherwise no, not really. they're a big hassle and a big risk, and there are no guarantees that they'll give any performance increase.
that said, it's fun to play around with them... but to do it properly it does cost a fair bit, and realistically with the heat output of today's CPUs (especially athlons), it's simply not worth trying to pelt cool them permanently.
get wet first... then decide if peltier are for you.

yea...they are quite expensive...my pelt rig will end up costing me prolly $350-ish...But im hoping it'll kick some ass.
The main problem (or so ive heard) with pelts is keeping them cool....For example: My 2 x 172watt pelt rig will be cooling a axp @ (hopefully) around 2.1ghz, and to cool thses suckers im using 3/4" tubing/fittings, 2 x 2500lph pumps, 2 x tojja rads (haha, each one has more surface area than yours KJ) and 300cfm varible fans on the rads. Im hoping this will do. If not we'll just have to buy another rad and another pump. The guy on OC.com who had a similar setup too me (apart from another pump and smaller rads) was getting about 3 deg C of ambient with his dual 172watters. I have kinda based my system on what he did, so i should have pretty good results.

thanks for the input guys i think i may go back to the volcano 9's though since im building a server box and dont have the room inside for the watercooling (im not putting it outside since ill break it when i take it to lans) anyhow i was also wondering where i could get a raid card to fit an exdended pci slot ( raid 0 prefferably i do backups regularly)

From what i know, peltiers are worth it, but only for people serious about it... If your thinking of hooking up a standard water cooling kit, then chances are its not gonna suit a peltier based system.
From the experiments ive made with peltiers, you need more serious cooling on its hot side than a simple water block and a heatercore in order to get the return from investment.
I sandwiched a pelt between 2 old Pentium3 Heatsinks, got a big block of ice and stuck the hot side Heatsink in it, and it went to negative 30 degrees, cold side...
It'd take ages to talk about everything involved in setting one up. So the only advice is, do butloads of reading, research on whats availible, costs etc, and if ya still wanna do it, Go for it.
Word to the wise tho, dont take them lightly!

you don't need a lot of space to do watercooling.. hell, look what coolmhz managed to do here (http://forums.overclockers.co.nz/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3037)... all it takes it careful planning.
you can order PCI RAID cards from pretty much any reputable retailer, although if you're going to be using Win2K/XP, you can save a few pennies and just buy a normal IDE PCI card and create a RAID using windows drive spanning. the performance is identical if not a little better than a dedicated RAID solution, the only disadvantage being that your boot drive can't be part of the array (i.e. you need at least 3 hard drives - one for boot, and the other two for the array).

i would try something like that i really like the idea of a compact system but mine is gonna be fully loaded when finished it will have at least
3 hdd in raid 0 (for the performance not security hence raid 0)
2 athlon mp processors (still deciding on speed)
2 gig of ram,
dvd drive,
cdrw and
dvd writer,
dual power supply,
geforce 4 ti(not decided yet),
internal network hub for 8 pc's,
zip floppy, and backup tape drive (got one from an auction for 40 gig tapes)
so i really dont have the space for a water cooling system inside the case (not an adequate one)and it must be protable (weight isnt the issue its how rubust it is) i was thinking of cooling the air into the system to increase the coolers performance

Emphisis on the planing!
Dont just buy stuff, figure out how it will fit in your case! that can really annoy you if it wont fit.
