View Full Version : GeForce2 Fan
Anyone know where I can get a fan for my 'old' GeForce2 VidCard.
It's starting to crap out. It's a real flimsay plastic thing that astounds me how it's run at all over the past two+ years.
The mounting holes for the fan are 33mm x 36mm.
Unfortunately I don't think I can get the old heatsink off the chip, it seems to be glued on, so I'm stuck with the HSK but can change the fan within the above hole spacings.
Cheers for any info

you can get globalwin gpu/chipset hsf's that attach via theraml tape (included). that'd do

do as wibber says and get a nice little globalwin jobby. you can remove your old one by chucking the card in the freezer for an hour and giving the heatsink a firm twist (thermal epoxy becomes brittle and weakens it's bond when subjected to low temperature). remember to thaw the card thoroughly before using it again tho :D

Where did you get the cooler? I take it you had the same prob as me, in that the heatsink is glued to the chip. I don't really want to pop it in the freezer and twist it off; I'm not that brave!!!
Also I ran the GF2 without the (piddly) fan, an it got quite hot.
So need to either get another fan or glue in another hsk on top of the one thats already there.
Still need some help. Ta

Just run it without the fan for a while so it gets hot then pull off the heatsink. Thats what I did with the Geforce256 I had.

I've got a Gainward GF2 that came without a fan, but when I found out how hot it got I attached a little old P166 processor fan.
All I did was shape up the two plastic clips on the fan with a pocket knife and jammed it onto the heatsink. A bit ghetto.
At 7 volts its real quiet and does the job. Its been there for months no problems, but I still hope it doesn't fall off.
I'm patiently watching GF4 Ti4200 prices come down. Want to get one at Christmas (and watercool).

LOL. the freezer trick is kinda nerve wracking at the time but it works a charm and it's pretty hard to stuff it up. you might even be able to get an experienced someone from the forum to help you do it.. but it's up to you ;)
there's a big benefit to be had from doing it tho, as they usually layer the epoxy real thick, thus inhibiting heat transfer quite significantly (thermal epoxy can transfer heat, but it's still not that good :D).

Yeah freezer trick is a bit worrying at the time.. I've done it twice with absolutely no problems though..
Just let the card dry out for a whole day if you're worried

I was lucky... my cooler was not glued on.. i just had the clips that went through the pcb. I used the same PCB holes to install the new cooler..
