Barton XP with 512k cache sampling now, and seen at Computex 2002. Looks like AMD will play this card when Intel brings out the P4 3GHz.

640k of cache on a chip is going to be sweet :D

If only they were bringing that out now instead of tbred :(

maybe it means T-Bred will be fast enough as it is until P4 3GHz. Smaller die means more profit for AMD until they have to go 512kB L2 cache.

looks good. :) On another note, what speeds do you think we can expect from 0.09 micron cpu's?

Lets see how the 0.13 micron CPU's will go. The Hammer will be AMD's 1st 0.09 CPU later next year.

yup...in my opinion, the t-bred aint gonna be out long..i mean if the hammer is supposedly comming out in august, that leaves what, 3 or so months for t-bred, and barton...i dont think hammer will be comming out then.

T-bred has years to run yet man, Its just that it won't be the "flagship" cpu. Duron is on its last legs, and Athlon XP will be the new Duron. I can't see T-bred being phased out until 64bit software becomes the norm, and that will be a while yet

If I was a betting man, I'd say the Duron will be around for a while. I'd even venture to say that they might up the FSB to 133 to counter Intel's new Celeron. But that's just my guess. ;)

soon after the hammer has entered the scene, the athlon (probably barton core) will become AMD's new equavilent to the duron... whether it be called duron or not is yet to be seen.

i dont think it would be worth bringing out 133 FSB Durons with the Athlons reducing in price. Plus the Athlon already kicks Celery

Yup- Before long low end Athlons (once T-breds start proliferating) will be worth less than high end Durons. Once that happens Durons won't be worth making. I doubt they'd rename low-end Athlons as Durons: too confusing for Joe Public, and why rename something with "power" and "classy" connotations with the budget brandname?

I recon the will rename XP's. Think about this:
Server market: Opteron (actual name)
Performance desktop: Athlon XP+ (actual name for the Clawhammer)

You can't call the value processor an XP, when the performance one is called XP+. A rename to Duron and all the dumb people out there will be ignorant that is is a new chip, but still know it as a value chip.
