Chaintech is a pretty average video card maker, both for quality and performance. I wouldn't start screaming anything like: Don't get a Chaintech, they suck! But if you want the best quality and performance go teh Leadtek.

If you've got a 17" or smaller screen AND/OR you're not looking for a huge overclock, then they'd be a reasonably good choice.

Beat Joytech/Eagle/Pine/etc handsdown anyday :D

By having a look at most reviews, the LeadTek is a very cool card, but the performance of it is medicore compared to other GF4's ... apparently it is not as fast...

2D filtration on them is good though.

I think Chaintech is starting to make a name for themselves. A year ago I wouldn't tell anybody to get a Chaintech ANYTHING, but they've saturated the US market pretty well and are starting to build a good reputation. After all, nVidia cards don't actually vary THAT much. As for overclocking, that's a different story, cause he didn't ask about oc'ing, but I would say probably not. I think Chaintech is one of those companies who starts out making things cheap so they can turn a buck, but I'd say keep an eye on them, they might start turning out quality stuff.

hi Dudes, I bought a Chaintech gf4 ti4600, it performs very well,
check out this review
http://www.octools.com/index.cgicaller=articles/ct_ti4600/ti4600_1.htm
I've not clocked the card up yet, still all default settings and with 11500ish 3dmark2001se points at default benchmark I don't really need to.
as a PC tech I get to play with quite a few toys, and Chaintech is now producing some great stuff, also don't overlook the MSI videocards, my previous card was a gf 3 64ddr Msi and it never missed a beat, even at 260/535 with std heatsinks and a slightly larger than stock cooling fan, gets me 8700 3dmark2000se points at default benchmark.

cheers

Hopefully tommorrow I will have the following cards at my disposal to test 2D quality:
ATi Radeon7500

Solid Snake where did you read this about the Leadtek's performance being mediocre to the other GF4 brands?
If so I'd like a link please? I'm in the market for a ti4200 and it's a tough decision with so little brands available.

The ever popular Tomshardware ... maybe I rely on that guy a bit too much,

http://www6.tomshardware.com/graphic/02q2/020522/ti4400_4600-14.html

Compare the 4400 only. Don't mistake me for comparing the A250 TD [which is the Ti 4400] against the 4600!!

That's the easiest link I can find for you. I did research on some other pages too, annoying how some reviewers would only present one card review per section and not compare them against much else. Maybe I base everything on the 3D Mark Score in the end ...mmm!

Uhm ... Well I know I turned it down for SOME reason... uhm, I think it has something to do with the fear of it falling out of my AGP slot and crushing everything ... or that the plastic pins will fail and crush everything... and price as well....

Ahem ... in the end, I think the LeadTek's are medicore in the end ... sometimes getting good scores, sometimes not. It's hard to find other reviews which also include the LeadTek A250 Ultra TD in them.

If the price is right, go for the Ti4200, but do some more background work too.

Some other links:
http://www.hothardware.com/hh_files/S&V/leadteka250ultragf4ti(4).shtml (LeadTek performs round the same as the sample Ti4600]

Careful on some links ay, they compare the Ti4400 or other Ti cards to the Raedon and GeForce 3's... have seen very few Ti4400 show downs at this point. Came across .. AnandTech one before I think ... or was it amd... yaadaa

Nope, not yet. But have a look at some of the Leadtek Ti4400/4600 reviews for an idea on what they're like as a brand. Then have a look at some generic Ti4200 reviews to see what the Ti4200's perform like. If you're smart, the rest should be obvious.... ;)

Well , i did end up getting a chaintech GF4 Ti4200
i must say it runs VERY hot, applied some artic silver 3 to it to try and keep it a lil bit cooler,
anyway in 3Dmark2001 im getting 7050 in default settings, with 29.20 drivers, now the only problem is that when it comes to the Vertex shader test it only gets like 12fps ???? my old GF2 pro could get 55-60fps in this test??

can anyone explain that to me? its got me buggered ive tries all the latest drivers and stuff, same result tho.

specs
Athlon XP1700+
xp333 m/board
256DDR ram
Windows XP pro
