I am currently looking for a motherboard around the 250 price range and I am really not sure which board I should get.

There is the:

ABIT KX7-333 KT333

Gigabyte GA-7VRXP KT333, ATA133, Onboard Sound (whats the diff between this and the ga-7vrx ? )

Or are there any other suggestions? I am not really hardcore into overclocking and what I am looking for is a motherboard that is stable and has lots of features etc. I am starting to dislike the ide placement on the soltek drv-5

Grrr!!

The difference between the VRX and the VRXP is that the VRXP has onboard network, RAID and also an improved sound chip (Creative POS rather than AC-97 REALLY POS).

Both the boards you mentioned are good and stable ... just don't get any v1 versions.

IMHO Avoid the Soltek.

Yeah the Gigabyte one sounds really nice, doesnt seem to have anti burn features for the cpu tho but, it never works most of the time anyway.

More inputs apprciated :)

No it doesn't have anti-burn protection.

The Gigabyte is an ideal motherboard for a feature whore. It is good value for money. The onboard sound isn't particularly great though.

I have very little knowledge of that abit motherboard.

Just one IMPORTANT question ... are you planning to overclock? The Gigabyte doesn't particularly overclock well.

Another option, the Shuttle AK35GT2 @ $220 @ DTC (http://www.dtconline.co.nz)

For specs:
http://www.shuttle.com/new/product/mainboard/specs_m.asp?M_id=8

That would leave a little money over for whatever else would need upgrading.

The reviews that I have been reading so far have been encouraging and no I am not going to do serious overclocking on this machine anyway..

the cheapest I could find is $275 for this board on blitzpcs...pricespy showed paradigm selling at 250 but it wasnt on their site :( ..

So far all the reviews I red about this board is good and the extra features and stability would certainly come in handy

:D

The 7VRXP is not being produced anymore ... I can't remember the code of the new Gigabyte KT333 board though.
