oooh! spelling nazi time! ;)
wealthy tweaking options
a wealth of maybe?
when graphic card is installed. when a graphics card is installed.
the memory speed is limited to 166 MHz whenever 1/5 PCI divisor is enabled.
aye? it a) wont do async mode or b) the mem frequency stays at 166mhz
if its a) you make it sound like a big deal, ,when who cares async mode blows anyway :)
not a bad review, but i think you conclusion makes it seem you think the board is bad because of their bad treatment of SP, I'd reword it and say that the board had mediocre performance and offered little improvement over the KR7A. and since some abit customers have been having rma difficultys, you wont be recomending the board to anyone.
sounds less biased :)

Maybe you should look at performance in terms of percentages, with 100% being the card under scruteny...rather than saying "this mobo performed worse out of all" when its a small percentage, ie: less than 3%.
So perhaps the fact that the KD7 performs slightly lower than the KT7A shouldnt be an issue, rather that all KT400 boards are on par with the 266A boards atm.
Or was one of those a KT333?
(This review was done around 2 weeks ago and I was rather pissed off at Abit at the time)
I don't care about async mode. The fact is, the memory frequency is LOCKED at 166 MHz when you engage the 1/5 divisor. Now, that's something new coz we don't have this sort restriction in KT-266A or KT-333. In other words, if you run the FSB @ 200, your memory is at 166 MHz. What's the point in oc FSB anymore?
I would not be so harsh on Abit if they are cheaper. At the time of writing, the KD7-R is around $400 which makes it nearly the most expensive MB in the KT-400 chipset. If I pay top dollar for a MB then I expect top performance, feature and stability. However, what does Abit offer at that price? Not so good performance, and plain features (why they include the sound? ) .
I also failed to see why the KD7-R is slower than KR7A. I don't have a KX-333 with me, otherwise would be very temped to give it go as well.
The Albatron is a KT-333 board.
