Does anyone know of a reliable XP multiplier unlocking service?

I'm wondering if I'd be too nervous to try it myself...
Has anyone f*&%ed up their XP trying to unlock it?

Is there any place out there that does this at the time of purchase? what would you charge for this service?

I've heard of it being done for Durons and Tbirds.

Is it true that this is the only way to get the XP chips operating at 333Mhz FSB speeds - by lowering the multiplier? (assuming you have the right memory/mb)

Cheers guys

yes, High End Computers (http://www.hec.co.nz) and StylesPC (http://www.stylespc.com) both offer an unlocking service and sell pre-unlocked CPUs.

Not really..... depends on the ceiling of the chip and current multiplier..... 1600+ = 10.5 x 133.3 = 1400Mhz

and if that chip had a ceiling of say 1750Mhz then you could run it on a 166fsb no problem with default multiplier.

However if the ceiling was 1667Mhz then you would have to lower the multiplier to achive a 166fsb....... make sense?

I can vouch for Shoota at High End Computers, he is good at what he does and will answer any questions you may have.
I didn't know JohnnyBoy at Styles did it as well, but he is very switched on too and extremely reliable, so I can vouch for both of them.
(Tell Johnny at Styles you heard about him here!)

yep, i got mine done by shoota @ HEC

when I emailed John Styles about it he said that he no longer provides that service.

It's not that difficult, I've unlocked my XP, I didn't damage it, you have to give these things a go. :D

It's ~10MB.
Damn good quality too.
They also do another vid where they run different cpus without heatsinks. Was cool to see without having to distroy my own hardware.
BTW If you get it you WILL drool over their CPU drawer. They must have literally one of every chip ever produced in there.

hey thanks for all your help guys, mucho appreciated.

I've bought some stuff from both John and shoota before so I'll ask them about it.

but then again, I haven't heard of many people screwing it up so maybe my confidence is growing...

is there anywhere in NZ where you can get a XP unlocking kit? you know with the filler, conductive stuff, magnifying glass - conveniently packaged and sent to you ready to go all for a nice low price?

cheers guys

Filler = nail polish or super glue. Location: Anywhere in NZ
Conductive stuff = conductive pen. Location DSE anywhere in NZ however if you are in Auckland try JayCar (www.Jaycar.co.nz) because they have Silver laquer which takes longer to dry and gives a more even finish compared with the conductive pen ;)
I spent $25 I think and got a magnifying eye piece, silver laquer, and scaple. They also do bulk discounts so I spose you could put together a kit and sell it ;)

ok, one more question:

what prevents the conductive paths you draw to connect the L1 bridges from getting smeared by the heatsink/fan combo?

Well the die height is 0.8-0.85mm and then you have some thermal paste.... the "conductive paths" are nowhere near 0.8mm in height..... you've got to make them really thin because the unlock won't work if the resistance of the "conductive path" is too high :)

Plus the HSF should only really be making contact with the die and the little rubber feet ;)

ahhhhh yup,

that all makes perfect sense then

cheers
