Hi everyone:
I am looking forward to buying a GeForce 4 Ti 4200 3.3ns; would there be any difference between the card i have currently and the g4 Ti 4200? I will be running games like Op Flashpoint and Counter Strike). Do i need more ram (128) if the card is going to run Op Flashpoint (lots of texture).
Since i am still a newbie on these things so i need good opinions from pro :D.
Thanx a lot.
Here is my system details:
AMD Thunderbird 1.4 (OCed to 1.533 :D )
Motherboard: Soltek SL-75KAV
1 x 80Gb Seagate, 7200rpm, 100ATA
1 x 128 SDR + 1 x 256 SDR (brand is unknown)
current video card is GeForce 4 MAX 440 (core: 315; memory: 525)

Your graphics card is already complete overkill for games that old.
You could downgrade and it wouldn't matter. Seriously man, a GeForce4 Ti would be twiddling it's thumbs on games that old.
Be happy with what you've got for those games - a new graphics card won't improve your gaming ONE FRAG.
If you were into newer, more interesting games like Unreal Tournament 2003, Battlefield 1942, Warcraft III, America's Army, Neverwinter Nights etc - THEN a newer graphics card might be of some help.
As for texture sizes, I doubt CS could stress out a 32MB card, let alone your 64MB card. LET ALONE a 128MB card!!
;)
BTW, what temps you get on your TBird? Mine's only at 1400 ATM, but I normally run it at 1466 ( it can run 1533, but that's about its limit :( ). 39 degrees ATM.... but I'm watercooled, so that's kind of expected :).

Hi KingJackal :)
I am using Volcano 9 ATM (just got it) and the temp is around 38 degree when runnning games; before i got V9, my cpu runs @ 1400 (default) and the temp is very high (something like 48). The trick is to leave the case open, it will reduce the temp by a certain amount :p
Thanx for the advice BTW. :)

with the infulx of gp peoples i was waiting for a thread like this....
Heck, i was hitting 99fps with a GF2 GTS....
and as i always say, if your getting more than 72fps then you havent got enough shiney settings turned on :D

What version of Operation Flashpoint are you running?
Because if you have got the new OFP:Resistance upgrade with the new graphics engine then yes you will see some performance increase going to the GF4 Ti 4200 128MB. You still wont be able to turn the graphics settings up high detail, but you should see noticable difference.
and guys check out this link (http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard301/ikonboard.cgi?s=3dad5e4d70a6ffff;act=ST;f=33;t=207 83) for an example of how the graphics have changed in OFP: Resistance!! :D

Actually, I have download OFPR Demo and the frame rate is "sad"; the motion seems to be made up by continuous pictures (like the way cartoons are made :D).
The thing i don't understand is that i couldn't see any difference in graphics between OPF and OPFR, but why is there a huge difference in frame rate? Do we need anotehr 64Mb?
Hopefully NV30 can do the job. :)
Becaause the common consumer cards dont have Virtual memory, if a game uses more than 64megs of textures (rare at this point in time) you'll notice a huge performance decrease. First major serious of games to break the 64meg barrier will be Doom3 which is due soon (in the scheme of things). A 128meg card should last till the end of the Doom 3 style tech and maybe a bit into the next, however once vmem cards start arriving for the consumer (like the P10) things will be alot easier.
This is why a 128meg GF4 is better than a 64meg GF4, despite the slower ram.

Aren't you completely forgetting polygon meshes, your output buffers, your Z-buffer, and about a dozen other things that use video memory?
Video Memory != Textures.

LOL my 32 meg card gives me 100 fps on cs with 800X600 res.
