I'm using the Fuji Finepix 2600, 2MP 6xzoom.
3x optical and 2x digital (go figure)
Takes quite nice pictures for the price.
One can only assume the 2800 is a bit better.....
A couple of gripes about the 2600.
Fixed exposure time, can't change it.
Hence with the flash off i need to hold the camera very steady or else the pic is very blurry....
The macro is DAMN NICE. (8-10cm min distance away)
Check out the pics of Paul Rhees case in the case gallery, I took them with the 2600.
However, i must admit, the pics do get a bit grainy, but what can you expect for the price.
Whatever you do, don't get a damn kodak, just nasty cameras IMO.
@ least their ones under a $1000
If you can afford it, go for a Nikon.
*shrugs*
I hope that was of some help :)

Fuji are dumping smart media for whatever is replacing it - XD cards or something, keep that in mind. I have no idea what the benfits are, thats why Jesus invented Google I suppose.
My workmate has been boofing about it for weeks, he wants to buy the newer version of that camera, and it's 3.2mp with the newer format of card.

Buggered if i know what model, lol.
The Nikons just feel and look a lot better than the Fujis, the quality of their macro pics is superb.
However, what model to go for i don't know
There is some place out there, steves camera reviews or something that has a ****LOAD of reviews on digicams.
I'd browse through there for reviews on ones in your price range, and he has sample pics too, straight from the camera ;)
Brilliant site.
Pit i can't remember the damn url, i've had to correct this post so many damn times, stupid laptop kb
And on a completely random unrelated note, the VooDoo5 5500 is about to be retired, after a few months of faithful service.

Irish-Whiskey's Nikon is nice. I think it's a coolpix 995. For pics using it go and have a look at his just got this by courier... (http://forums.overclockers.co.nz/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2799) thread. It has like a macro to 2cm.

I had a look through a camera shop in west city mall this arvo, i'd say the nikon coolpix 2000/2500 would be your best bet, they don't look that flash, but seem to have some very nice features, but, as always, try before you buy if you can :)
Depends on your budget.......
