www.divx-digest.com see Nikki Page's guides
or www.doom9.org
for best results use DivX 5.02 Pro, and dont hesitate to reduce the frame size, as small DivX 5's scale up in players quite nicely.
I shall be writing a MPEG/AVI -> DivX 5 avi recompression guide sometime. But i have exams first.

Point: please try and talk like a normal human being on these forums. Your two posts above highlight the fact that you are most likely from GP, and GPers are held in low regard at the moment due to immature behaviour/spamming/etc from certain people.

:\ i never post on any forums, once in a blue moon if that, i just browse :P been looking at ocnz longer than gp atleast :\
i do the same thing as you.
I use virtual dub to do it, I can get it cranking up to 70fps on my duron ~1-1.2GHz in DivX 5.02 codec.
MInd you, you will get real good quality, but the size still might be a bit too big to email etc.

what frame size N? I'm getting 64fps with a standard MPEG recode, 2nd pass, no audio.
My machine seemed to capture happily to mpg4 in reall time using a lifeview flyvideo'98
Once the codec was instaled the option was there to use it with the flyvideo's capture software. Although that capture software only captures for a max of 15 minutes or something silly like that.
Anyways, the capturing worked at 640*480. But when a lot happened it would drop the odd frame.
relevant system specs...

Binky Stunt Cat, that's on 320x240 res, :D
ming you, AVI on that res is pretty good, while MPEG is all pixeled out,
