View Full Version : Chaintech 7VJL sound?
well, i'm about to get a chaintech 7VJL and was wondering how good the onboard 6 channel sounds are...
how do they compare with a SB Live 5.1?

Well I'm happy with the sound from my Apogee, however make sure you check that it has the extra connector for the sub/centre channel, as the first lot of boards in NZ did not ship with these.
It was only a photocopied page added to my manual that made me realise this. I talked to JB about it and he has had such trouble getting these boards from the supplier that I didn't bother chasing it up. I've still got a 4.1 surround system though as I've got a powered sub.
I've never had a SB live though, so I can't compare, my last card was a SB128 which was crap. The Apogee onboard sound is definately WAY better than that
:D
yeah... coz i was thinking about selling the SB live! if the onboard was about as good.

I would, mainly for the fact that I believe onboard sound/NIC's etc would limit overclocking less than an actual soundcard or add in NIC.
I could very well be talking thru a hole in my head, but it's just a theory I have :p

... the sound is very good, much better than the crap AC97 Audio on other mobos IMO :)
OC's like a B.itch though! 400Mhz FSB, gotta have the RAM to get that high :S - I just have crappy 2100 :(
