Please don't flame me for being ignorant or uninformed but....
1. I want to take the A+ and Network+ tests.
2. I just want to take the tests by themselves, I DON'T want to pay someone $7000 to teach me stuff I already know.
3. Does anyone know how I can do this?

Just talk to one of the places that does the testing, you'll be able to do it, I'm not sure on how much it costs though.

I was in the same position,
but ended up going to UNI.

http://www.comptia.org runs all the tests. The test itself is about 300NZ$. I checked this couple of months back, might have changed now.
I contacted some of the NZ providers and they all told me I have to do the course, blah blah blah.
tell us how you go,

WOW! you guys have given me more info in acouple of hours then a whole day of web searching has gotten me. I really do appreciate it. THX.
I DO have to be straight, though, I was just putting feelers out there, I'm not gonna rush down and take the tests tomorrow, I just wanted to know if I could tomorrow if I wanted to.

Deviant right. You don't have to ask even, we'll give advice, tips, experiences and opinions freely and without hesitation.

Like this...

I would personally advise against going for your A+ (unless of course your knowledge base is VERY limited at the moment). As I have sat it. And from talking to potential employers they see it about as beneficial as "a little work experience". I would suggest instead maybe spending a little more time and money and getting the likes of MCSE or MCP CISCO etc... Obviously the exact choice would very much depend on what you want to do. And to the best of my knoledge you can (just like A+) teach yourself and then sit the tests.

Just a thought :)

i am A+ certified, didn bother with N+ tho.. did MCSE instead. A+ exam has changed quite a bit since when i did it (3 years ago) but i think i still got some resources to help u studying if u need them..(but if u are an OCNZ guy..i doubt u will need anything)

Lol, I actually considered A+ for a fleeting moment.

Only took that long before I realised I'd probably LOOSE knowledge cos it'd reduce the amount of time I had to actually LEARN! Lol @ vege courses....

( And yes, I'm proud to be a MATH300 level student, :p :p )
