but the only Pc I could test it on has an XP1400 CPU. As It only has a stock cooler I will wait for the rest of the components inc 7+ Volcano.

you mean XP1600+ 1.4Ghz?
wouldn't think that it would put out much more heat, did u check the temp's in bios?

I think you want to bridge the last L5...... well it worked on the 2200+'s...... should give you 12.5 and lower multipliers ;)

Nice chip there, Mr. Whiskey.
Very little effort went into thought before most of these posts I see ;)
Seeing as there was a mention in the other thread(s) about it being $525 incl GST the other day, and the fact that that price coincided with the XP2400+ etc...
However, congrats, you have the biggest...er, best CPU for a while! :) Make us proud, overclock that thing to a 3200+!
Ragnor

Yes very little thought or knowledge so far in the posts.. disturbing
It's obvious from the pic in the first post it's a 2400 XP, you can read it right there before the stepping etc.. You can tell it's a Tbred rev B too from there...
In case you don't know he had to get if from PC Companies aka Pc Essentials (boo PC Compnay) since they're the only ones who have them in the country just now (as far as I know)..
Excellent choice man.. :D
For those who lack the knowledge to unlock a Tbred rev B .. you simply conect the last L3 bridge.
There is a side effect though, you'll only be able to change the multi upto 12.5 in bios... but the aim of unlocking is to get more FSB anyway so it's limitation most of us can live with.. increase the FSB.. keep the multi low
If you haven't already, then bookmark www.ocinside.de (remember to click english on the main page - unless you speak german  )

I thought the picture told the story. Both you & Ragnor had no problem interpreting it.....maybe everyone else did too.
The Yanks still cannot get these so REJOICE !!!
Remember, it will be virtually worthless in 6 months or a year.
It will be running (FAST) on Tuesday arvo ......but you probably know that already ;)

hmm, so cant you get any higher multi's than 12.5? coz that only equates to like 2.5ghz...which as we know, u can do on air with these things...
What happens if you want to slap a phase change to one, and can only get to a 200mhz fsb? it would be sad if there isnt an other way to get the higher multi's
mird-OC
11-10-2002, 01:36 PM
you can acheive mults higher than 12.5, but it's just not quite as straight forward.

damn irish... those are some DAMN good pics... what cam did you use and how much did it cost? (looks about perfect for my needs.. i'm guessing its got a 4 digit price tag though when i'd prefer 3-digits)

$525, he posted it earlier :p

LOL Thanks Whetu ! Its a Nikon Coolpix 995....accept no substitute!
Macro to 2cm..... only Nikon get this close. Pic below is one I just took of the Windows key on my dusty keyboard....see what I mean. Handheld @ 1/4 second.
I had a Coolpix 950 before this....same 2cm macro....
Sorry, I bought it in Europe...no idea how much they are......if you can still get them. You could always consider a 2nd hand one.

Apparently these things come factory unlocked if you have a KT400 mobo such as KD7 etc.
They are starting to show up in the states too, from the early posts ive read ppl are only getting about 2.3 ghz on air and 2.5 with heavy duty cooling such as vapochill, but jesus! even that is sweet though :)
Heres a couple of early 2400 oc threads ive found.

well, i reckon thats coz they highest multi u can get for them is 12.5? 200mhz fsb x 12.5 = 2500mhz
[H]arls
13-10-2002, 05:32 PM
I dont understand Volodkovich, what do you mean the highest multiplier you can get for them is 12.5? Are you saying that its something internal to the CPU itself? If youre talking motherboard multipliers the Abit AT7-Max2 goes up to a multiplier of 22, a little bit higher than 12.5  ;)
Volodkovich
13-10-2002, 05:41 PM
yea sorry...i just read the whole story, and now it makes sense.
Apparently these chips are stock unlocked, for all multipliers above 12.5. If you want 12.5, or any lower if your using a high fsb, you have to connect the last L3, or L5 (cant remember which one it was), which will give you your multi's below 12.5.
Once you have unlocked it, you cannot get a higher multi than 12.5.
It's lucky that you can use pencil on these, so u can just rub out the line to get the higher multipliers. So, basically, you have to decide where-abouts your fsb will be, and unlock it to suit your needs.
Hope that makes sense.
Grrr!!
13-10-2002, 05:52 PM
Stock unlocked? Nice. How the hell will they tell when you send back your ****ed CPU if you havent been running it at 200MHz FSB x 20? Hmm 4GHz :).
Volodkovich
13-10-2002, 05:57 PM
yea...well as i said "apparently"...all from the guys on xtremesystems who actually have these chips, so you would want to think they are right.

I had to take a double look at my windows key just to try and fathom that macro. :p
That camera must come in soooo handy in forums like this. ;)
anyone know whats the macro on a Sony P1 digital camera?

OK. Got most of the components on Friday.....just awaiting the Corsair 3200 XMS Ram & the WD Hd's.
In the first instance I will setup everything up with the CPU in its original 'Locked ' state.
Any suggestions on some initial OS starting points with this lot? Mobo is Epox 8K5A3....OS is Win 2000.......cooling is courtesy of a Volcano7+.
Hopefully the Ram arrives Tuesday! Cant wait to get it running.
OC or OS???
If it's OC try for the 166 fsb right off the bat but somehow I don't think it'll make it to 2.5Gig ;) up the FSB a little at a time to try to find the "ceiling" from there you can work out the FSB you want and the multi you require.

Finally got everything setup today. Delighted with the look & sound. Temps look fine with the Volcano 7+ on low / Med!
Unfortunately, my Corsair XMS3200 is still unavailable so I'm using a 128 mb Kingston 2100 stick so I cannot rate performance. Still, i'll jack it up as high as I can tomorrow.
