well so in noticed this on the clear site the other day and was wondering if anyone here had some opinions on it or not
Tempest 256k (http://www.clear.net.nz/services/pricing.html)
its about time someone started to offer this Telecoms 128k or full pipe nonsense was starting to get a little thin
and note the "unlimited" usage as well
wonder what the catch is ;)

Last I heard it was only open for business customers. :(
But Walker Wireless also has a 256K unlimited plan, pity it rains so often.

It is for business customers only. And your average business won't saturate the link 24x7 like you would probably want to ;) If a 'business' did this they would be disconnected. It is unlimited, but within reason. :)

Will that make it less prone to dying in bad weather??
Could be interesting :)

Note: Service not available in all areas.
I'd say that writes me off, considering jetstream isn't even here yet.

Tempest 256k looks quite good, with jetstart being caped by most providers and comparative cost, tempest 256k at double the speed for $99 is tempting. I wonder how fast "tempest flat rate" is.
You can get faster cable, but I don't think off hand that any providers offer flat-rate cable service, particuarly at 2MB. Thou I have to preach and say that at our kapiti office we have a 2MB cable modem which goes sweet.
I wonder how they define "business", as you could pretty much say your a sole trader. Would organisations also fall under the term "business"? I mean are they going to check your ird records, does it need to be a registered company, or is it just a label they slap next to the service to show its intended target/consumer?

They probably won't even care if your really a businsess at all, the only thing these arseholes want is their money.

in my studies for tempest 256k:
1) you MUST be using telstrasaturn phone lines.
2) you MUST be a business.
we could have had tempest 256k at our flat, as tojja is a business, but telstrasaturn refused to connect our phoneline earlier than june 14th. so telecom hopefully hooked us up yesterday (while i was still unconcious) and as soon as we get a dsl router we'll be inspire whores.
antallica.. can you please change your avatar? i was about to call you asan for a moment there...

Hmmmmm
MAy have to go for that when my Telecom contract expires (ie soon)
600meg Cap is a PAIN in the lower bowel.
And I already pay per minute line charges *LOL*
*edit*
Wow, Its even better than I thought: Static IP basically, and allowed to use servers on it (which is better than the bloody Jetstream agreement I have)
I may have to start a webpage *LOL*

Why start a new thread when one already exists?
Sad the search function isn't used more frequently really.

I agree. Spending nowhere near as much time here as I used to. It would make things a lot easier if old threads were just added to when someone had something new to add. Instead of the general create a new thread, gets a couple of replys and then someone creates a new thread again when the old one is out a sight.
Think I was guilty of it myself a couple of times.
