I picked up aPIXELVIEW GeForce 4 MX440 64MBDDR with TV-Out AGP Card. $199 from dragon in the weekend.
so far i'm very happy with it...
Since they're seem to be a hot topic at the moment heres what i've got out of it...
so the cards do have TV out.... the come it with 5ns (400MHz) samsung ram which ove got at 465Mhz.... any more than that and i get some funky blue bits in textures...... still running at 500 with the funky stuff... might just need some ram sinks... ???
The default core is 275mhz and its running at 295 MHz goes higher but opengl extensions lockup in quake after about 1 minute.... have had it at 320mhz seeming running fine in 3dmark2001.
i'm runnng all most games at 1600x1200 fine.... i've never seen Q3 drop below 50fps.... max payne is completey smooth....
And this is on a celeron system !!!! not excactly the most powerful system around.... Also note that my Agp is severley overspec at 89 mhz !!!
i've got no complains about the image quality either
This Card is Very good value for the $$$

I'm still not convinced about going 440MX or Ti4200, but that is a good price. Might look for Leadtek though.

That is damn good value for money..
Although I'd still try and get a true DX8 card if possible....... But for $199 :O :O :O
that's really good, 200$, wow, like 2 weeks ago the cheapest was like 260$ for a GF4MX DDR.
This makes me wanna upgrade mine, although I see no point since I don't play any games which require such high powered video.

The leadtek would be the better card. But at that price you're not really looking for top of the line performance.

i got about 4500 3dmarks..... celeron @ 1161 mhz running on a intel BX board... 256 mb ram and on windows 2000 sp2... with 28.32 video dirvers...
so there no way i'm using the full potentail of the mx440
read this....
http://www.overclockers.co.nz/ocnz/vga/gf4mxshootout/1.shtml
it'll proabably be more useful.....than a 3dmark comparions... and more similar to your rig

Im upgrading my p3 450 to what u have pretty much as I can get a 1gig coppermine celly on my slot 1 BX mobo with a slocket I think.
Was wondering if the AGP will bottleneck a gf4 mx440 at all, Im new to computers so just yes or no and by how much would be kewl :D
I was hoping if I upgraded my cpu and ran mobo@133FSB that it should have enough juice to run a gf4 mx440 at full blast.... what's holding you back?
PS I shoulda waited, prices always seem to drop after first 2 months or so, everyone should have a $200 gfmx440, unless u have some huge monitor or somethin, pixel shaders schmixel shaders....;)

i'ts not the agp holding it it back.... on a bx its on agp2x.... but because its at 89+ mhz its more like 2,7xagp :)
i thinks more to do with memory bandwidth and the lack of it because of sdram...
but it still runs everything i play perfectly fine...

The system you have is pretty even overall -not like coupling a PentiumIV 2GHz with a TNT2 M64.
The bottleneck in your system will not be AGP or graphics related, but purely CPU. The Celeron lacks in the cache department, and coupled with low FSB is usually a sad CPU compared to Durons and Athlons. You have your FSB quite high though (133 or there abouts?), and on a rock solid BX chipset this is quite fast (compared to modern chipsets at 133MHz). If you could mod a Tualatin to use your BX board and crank it to 1500MHz+ that would surely max out the GF4 MX.

Thanks ,very helpful. Id like a Tualatin but Im a total noob to tech stuff, installing a new 3d card the other day was the most daring thing i done with it since I bought it 3 years ago . I only started reading these tech forums recently...
I heard you have to solder something or do a "pin-trick" to mod a BX for a Tualatin, sounds dodgy mate, Ill go for safety of a coppermine+slocket I think for a bit less perfomance :D
If I lived in a big centre might see if I could convince one of yous to help if I brought it round, for a doz beer or whatever ;) but I dont think anyone here is from Taupo :(
1 gig Tualatins only $175 new too and will OC better than a 1gig c-mine :(
2 much thinking

prices for the pixelviews have gone up
$30 more for the mx420 and $35 more for the mx 440
*thinks about how long it will take for the interest in the bank to gain that much
damn..

GeForce4 MX prices should go down sometime within the next month or two as a result of pressure from the newer NV18 based cards apparently ;).
