I prefer it on the PS2 actually
Smoother, not full of bugs, and looks quite nice actually.
It's an each to their own thing, don't get all evangelical about it :p

Its not smooth cos you have a TNT2M64... :D
Try it on a GF4 Ti... Loverly...
The PC version will get better though whereas the console version is fixed.

No, i wasnt playing it on my system, i dont have it yet.
I was playing on a mates PC, gf3 ti-500, xp1700+ etc
They released a buggy game.
It sucks in its present incarnation, in my opinion @ least.

my system is going strong, same specs but wit a gf4 4200. You do have to do a bit of tweaking in the options, eg TURN FRAME LIMITER ON. this solved the high fps but jerkyness of the game. now i get a static 30fps. I havent seen it go in the 20's yet.

If i was going to get a new console, i'd choose out of the xbox and PS2. Isn't going to happen anytime soon anyway either - no money (and as said above - would rather spend it on pc). :)

Gamecubes are NOT selling well.
AFAIK, sales are as follows ( in the US ):
PS2 - 25m
XBox - 4m
Gamecube - 4m
...and from E3 announcements, it appear that Nintendo have NO, I repeat NO plans for networking their Gamecubes.
Sony and MS are both enabling games for net play, and getting their internet services ready, but Nintendo didn't even mention networking.
Not to mention that the XBox uses a standard RJ-45 port, so you should simply be able to plug them into a normal switch and frag away! :) Could add a cool element to LANs in the future...

yeah i heard the gamecube is outselling xbox quite considerably. interesting... i guess it's the whole "microsoft is a software manufacturer, nintendo is a console manufacturer" mentality, which was always going to be a problem for MS and the xbox.
i won't be buying either. i'll just get the emulator when it's developed :D
on that note, PCSX2 is coming along nicely... might even be able to play some game on it in the coming months.

If i had to choose between one of them I would go for the xbox. I have played on all of them and xbox is superior in every way IMHO. Then again I wouldnt buy any of them ;)

Thats not entirely true KJ - According to good old TechTV they'll be showing off there broadband adpter thingie. :)
Plus those stats arent entirely fair - PS2 have been in the game for much longer than GC or Xbox. I would go for the Xbox but dont have the $$$, and im not all into the PS2 games and there gfx :\

I think I would either go with the Gamecube or a PS2 if I was gonna go the console route, but woul rather buy new mobo or more RAM or something like that
I don't like the Xbox as it is about the size of a computer anyway, and have heard reports that it is not all that MS make it out to be, also with low sales, third party game makers are less likely to go with it as they are with the others. I have tried out a gamecube and it was nice, but alot of my friends have a ps2 so having the same platform as them would be better than a different one

there will be plenty of games for it as most games will probably be ported across from the PC... but that just means if you have a PC, why would you want an xbox? :)

I have a fued against sony, not because they are bad but cuz of the ppl who are one eyed and say things like.
"my PSX has better graphics than your N64"
"PS2 looks better than gamecube and xbox put together"
"That game doesn't look better than on ps2, look they don't even have the fog effects"
"crappy, with ps2 you can just use lockon instead of aiming"
Viper_NZ
30-05-2002, 09:51 PM
PS2, is just an annoying product. I think the graphics looks really washed out like a N64.
Gamecube. -> Doesn't have Pixel shaders which IMO in a 640 x 480 display could be used to create some stunning effects.
Xbox, big, bulky, M$, but cool hardware. Hopefully it takes off.... Rivals PS2 and we have cheaper consoles in the end...

I bought a PS2 thinking it would be awesome ..... a year later sold it and will never buy another console again .... 800X600 or less and <Geforce 2 graphics just does not entertain me
and it is not upgradeable nor overclockable :(
Same with Gamecube, and almost Xbox except for the graphics quality which is better on the box but not quite PC 8500 standard

The sales figures on the consoles are not fair. That is irrelevant. Fair is irrelevant. This is the real world - game publishers are interested in selling VOLUME, not quality or 1337ness. If there are more PS2's, they will licence more PS2 games. Unfortunately, it's about that simple.
And as for all this 'why buy a console when a PC is better?' rubbish - an XBox/PS2 etc all retail below $800 NZD now. Show me ANY gaming PC that a dude with $800 can even dream about. Go on - I DARE YA!!! :D
At the end of the day, they are a cheaper addition to the student flat than a PC - and the lack of constant upgrading only saves more cash. They may not look as good - but they don't need to...

Game Cube = Nintendo = Crap... :D
Nintento has a bad reputation for drip feeding games and playing far to big a hand in game development for their own good (ie. making silly political descisions that ruin games). The X box has a much more open development structuer which may well lead to more games of better quality. On the flipside it could mean there is lesss quality control but reviews do a good job of that.
If you really want a game cube, get the panaonic version that can play dvds and is silver too :D

Nintendo is the only good playa in the console market imho. They have been through it all, SEGA, Atari (Jaguar), 3DO have all failed in the console market. Soon that list will contain Sony and M$.

lol.. this piece from SomethingAwful is fitting:
Now I don't want to get all you console nerds out there in a fit over poking fun at the X-Box because I know how much you cretins love to write 15-page flame messages explaining why the game system of your choice is better than Jesus Himself. I don't care for playing games on the X-Box, Gamecube, PS2, or PC. I don't play games much these days except cat and mouse games where the hunter becomes the hunted and nothing is what it seems and he's a good cop gone bad, framed for a crime he didn't commit and is now out for revenge, out for justice, out for lunch.
rofl :D
thought i'd post this tidbit as well
While us Windows / Outlook chumps sit here and delete spoofed Klez worms all day like a crazed duck pecking at, uh, a piece of bread that looks like the "delete" key, the Mac and Linux weirdos are undoubtedly sitting comfortably in their very, very, very large load-balancing chairs and proclaiming their OS's superiority to Microsoft Windows. That's all fine and good by me, however I'd like to point out one little fact: neither Mac or Linux can run MS Paint. Point, match, and checkmate, inferior operating systems!

when everybody just dives into the ultimate Multiplayer syndrome.. Nintendo keeps itself away and focuses directly on the gameplay itself. this can be a good move or a bad move.. but when it comes to the gameplay & design, nothing ever comes close to Nintendo.

I was reading somewhere that the reason that consoles don't go to such high resolutions is the fact that they are used through a TV, and most TV's out there can't handle much above 640x480, so there is no point making graphics hardware which can display higher than that, they are better off trying to do better effects or keeping costs down. Apparently this doesn't matter too much when gaming, but when sony released the Linux pack for the PS2 it is an issue as running a Linux desktop (or any desktop for that matter)at 640x480 is just silly
Also in a side note isn't this thread asking who is going to buy a Gamecube, and all I've seen so far is "Console Y sux" or "PCs are way better man" no one actually really saying "ooh pick me I'm gonna get one"

That is true. Your standard analogue TV doesn't show 640 ( it's a slightly uglier number - but of a similar quantity of pixels ). The reason XBox's can render higher res' is for their HDTV support. HDTV's run at higher res' - or in TV terms, give a clearer digital picture.
Still noway hear the res a PC monitor can pull - but then, try affording a 39" PC monitor..... :D

lol :D
'Console' is a fanboy trigger. So is the name of any console.
The same applies for OSs ( Linux, Windows, MacOS being the inflammatory terms ), and for platforms ( intel, AMD, motorola )..... :p

Not sure about the Gamecube.

Nintendo were really conservative about their polys per second figures.
Although PS2's showed to be better they were maximum numbers, nintendos were figures in a real game environment and not game demos eg swirly colours

To continue my one sided crusade for the superiority of the X-Box over the PS2 I put forth that not only does Halo have better gameplay than the launch games of the Gamecube and PS2, but its graphics are superior in every possible way (Hmmm, actually don't quote me on that :D).
Also, the controller is perfect for my lanky fingers. :D

no way dudes
you guys all at the wrong scene, its all about the vectrex.
that thing was ta bomb, it used vectors instead of polygons/models/whatever and had the crispest graphics (i guess you could call em graphics) ever.
and if you put cellophane over the screen it would make the white lines in colour!!
i used to have an emulator for it, dont know where it went though...
on a more serious note:
i have used an x-box. it is not amazingly huge as prtraid by gamespy and most ps2 whiners.
the graphics ro><or any sony bo><ors, especially the chest bouncing effects in dead or alive 3.....mmmmm chest...
halo is ta bomb, you got yer two types of enemys, small ****ers and big ****ers....
i rest my case

In this sort of disscussion no one console will come out as a winner. The fanboys from each side will rant and rave until their heads explode and all that will do is make the other sides irritated. I hate all consoles personally. I wouldnt buy any of these things. I have used them all, IMHO the xbox is the best of the lot. Its crap, but better than the rest.

i absolutely 100% totally agree with you.
as far as i'm concerned a console is a console since the limiting factor on graphics is really the tv unless you have an xbox/hdtv. tv's are crap for anything but tv-quality video and thus that's all i'll ever use them for. (unless its a reeeeeeally big tv :D) and like mird-oc said, why buy a console when you own a computer... and most of us already have decent computers that 0WN anything on a tv....

lol I really didnt want this to turn into some kindof console debate on which one is the best, because as GooGlo said no one console will come of as the winner. But back on subject Ive decided to wait for the release of the Xbox, let'em fight it out for a couple of months and then make my decision.
