ok
anyone know of any cool fun-classic games which you can download for around a meg?
candidates must include total ownage weapons or a very humerous aspect, must have hot seat/lan and must be FUN
im putting liero up first
possibly the best game ive ever played, a worm style game featuring the coolest weapons
user controlled missiles
sniper rifles
nukes (big and small)
lots of blood!
anyone else?

Well, I'll second Liero :D.
Just remember to play with the reload time on the rocket launcher and see what you can do ( think: 0 ;) )...
Here's a good Liero site:

Dunno about other games. I've got DSL now, 100MB game demos aren't a problem anymore.... :D

after talking about this in another topic, i realised that it might be exactly what your looking for....
bolo is a massivly multiplayer game, (teams i think) that was originally for that mac, but there is now a PC version that works over tcp/ip......just go to www.winBolo.com (http://www.winbolo.com) ...and its about 1mb.
The idea is you are a tank on an island....and ther eare pillbox gun turret things, that you can capture (by blowing them up) and then you can place the pillbox (the man in your tank is also a builder) wherever you want......constructing a base.
The terrain plays a big part with swamp areas slowing your tank down and trees providing cover (so other players cant see you)
So when you've got good teams you build up a big base and co-ordinate attacks against enemy bases....etc
you can get brain plugins that make your tank smart (like building bridges automatically over rivers you encounter) an other stuff too.
oh theres also a linux version

i nearly forgot, wasnt sure weather to post since the game is driving sim.....
but 4d sports driving (you might know it as 'Stunts') is a complete classic.
!Lukes Stunts Website (http://www.dataway.ch/~lukasl/4dsports.html)
The grapics and sound are basic, but you can construct your own crazy stunt courses and then try drive them in a variety of cars with replay features, this game is tiny but has hours of addiction waiting for you

RETURN FIRE 2
This game rocks, it is a clone of an old amiga game, it is split screen and you each have a tank and a base, u have to capture the other guyz flag or blow him up.
Oh I remember you can use jeeps and helicopters as well. it is 3d but I think is aboot 7mb.
Il look for a download site in a sec

I've got some old clasics on CD somewhere. They need to be run with an emulator (about 500k) and each game is 200-300k each.
Titles include:
Packman
Defender
Moon Patrol
Elevator Action
xevious (however you spell it)
Gyrus
Lunar Lander
Space Invaders
and many more.....
All old clasisics that I loved as a kid at the space invader parlour.

Wasnt return fire 2, a PC port that was 3D? Much bigger than 1 meg tho)
Oh another small download.....im sure most of you have an old copy of DOOM (shareware, full or doom2, hexen, any doom engine game)
head over to doomsdayHQ (http://www.doomsdayhq.com/) for a openGL frontend.
This really kicks arse, but it makes the game A LOT easier (because it runs really fast at 1280x960) since you can see the enemys much easier (beats 320x200).
Some of the visuals are surprisingly impressive...for a nine year old game (as the textures ID originally used were much more vibrant than the muddy 256 color rendering could show)
HOWEVER, to get the best out of this you really need to download the 3D models as well (for baddies, guns, items)....which total about 6mb (oh no  :p )

Thats kinda like what happened to the later psx games, the textures and models on the cds could support much higher resolutions than that of the psx and when ppl used bleem and ps2's to play em they looked much better
