Well was reading some reviews today looking around for a new Graphics Card brand to buy. Was a throw up between a Chaintech 128MB GT21 and a Triplex.

So I read the triplex review on octools and they had a link to StarLyte PC's website so I went on over and what do I see......

Triplex 64MB 4200 Special Ends 20th September $363 inc GST

I'm so weak *cry* :D

Anyone got any idea how well it will perform in only a P3 1Gig processor machine? Thats only got SD ram hehe.

I messed about with overclocking the CPU to 1100mhz but that gave me less score in 3DMark with my current vid card than when the CPU was at 1000mhz /boggle

Anyone know how high I could get the processor btw? At 1100 it was exact same load tamp as at 1000. ( Slightly un vid card ish side question I know)

EDIT: God Damn I suck with making typos in thread headings /sigh

Thats cause you are running your sdram out of spec. If its generic and rated for 133mhz and you are running it at 140mhz with aggressive timings it could be missing data etc (I think, I'm tired and may be talking sh*t). Get some pc150 in that b*tch and sit it on 1.2ghz.
Triplex huh, thats a nice card. Good overclocker. Expect a few thousand more 3D marks, depending on what you are upgrading from.

Good luck.

I thought the original P3 core maxed out at 1133mhz. As intel had to recall the 1.133gig chip due to errors found by tom and kyle.

Im a little surprised to hear that you got 1100mhz out of it, but hey, overclock it to its limit Belaguez.

The good news is that even with 1gig and SDram you will still find the performance upgrade worthwhile. You may find that in cpu limited games (like UT2k3) you get Antiailasing and Anisotrophy for 'free'.....
gotta love eyecandy;)

DON'T GET TRIPLEX!!

they are known in taiwan to be the worst vid company probably ever... its a long story of how they got through to the international markets, and seeing NZ dosen't know much about their history, many people have become their victims...

in short:
Triplex = ****ty quality material, bad for o/cing and uses looks and packaging to pomote themselves.

Well, after testing a couple of their cards I can't say I agree with you....mind you I can't really comment on long term build quality.
Other than that they seemed pretty solid and come out with some good performance results as well.

Yes, the Triplex wasn't known for their quality before the GF4 line. Triplex was known for crappy VGAs (mainly ****ty ram and 2D filter) and the lowest price (pretty much the same on quality as well).

The Triplex had a huge hit with the Sis 6326 chip, coz of the "hardware" based DVD playback around 3 years ago. Their S3 line of VGA cards are shocking as well, not to mention GF2 line. I don't recall seeing any GF3 cards produced by Triplex.

However, they really changed their image with the GF4 line. I would say their GF4 line is as good as the well-known manufacturers. (The HSF still sux though).

Well it arrived yesterday, no tweaks or overclocks and it scores 6800ish in 3DMark. More than double my old cards performance but I can still get it higher I'm sure hehe.

Quake 3, 1024 res max graphics AA x4 ........... like butter *drool*

And I did do my homework, it wasn't that much of an impulse buy. Theres alot of good reviews for the card out there. Yet to find one bad one.

Bundled software kinda bites though, Severance Blade of Darkness and Stunt GP. Althought Stunt GP is quite fun hehe

And yeah the heatskin/fan is a bit crappy. Looking into fitting a thermaltake GF4 cooler.

to be honest, triplex isn't that bad,
the other cards the make can actully compare with the best, but its their GF series are crap... my dad's mate in taiwan is one of the 'behind workers' for nvidia, and what they know so far is that the Triplex GF4's weren't supposed to be big in the market anyway, so they don't spend much on research and design, but try promote it amap and see how it goes... hoping they can be better when the next nvidia designs come out.

Gainward is slowly backing out of the GF as what i've been told - maybe soon moving onto the SiS chipsets, and so is Asus

Triplex Video card have the following factors to compete with others:
1) Nice Looking (Millennium Silver)
2) Fast performance as all their Ti4200 were clocked 50Mhz memory faster than specs
3) Gamers Edition Ti4200 64MB were based on 3.3ns Ram
4) Excellent Overclocking

Btw, I am sure Asus and Gainward might go for ATI instead of SIS.

Hey all,

I have a triplex millennium silver 64mb gf4 ti4200 with 3.3ns ram... and as far as i can tell its pretty awesome

I think my system restricts it somewhat tho.. havent really done any tweaking and havent really done 3dmark properly.. so cant give you firm results.. but im happy with the card.. anyone got a good overclocking tool for it? the one that came with the drivers cd really sucks!
