View Full Version : Some problems with sparks on PCB...

Heya,

I've just built a DSE power supply unit, and it works fine. Problem sometimes is that the capicitors spark and some other parts on the PCB also spark, such as the relay. It's odd, as if the capicitors are discharging in a humerous way, and the relay .. is um .. I don't know what on earth it is doing. Anyways, the when it does spark nothing happens, it still supplies the correct voltage [15 VDC] and the Sub Woofer Bypass on it continues to work ....

Is there anyway to stop it from sparking crazily like that? It happens when it first goes on by the way... I've checked all my soldering and they are fine, no blobs of solder going through paths or anything like that. I've checked the rotations of all polar components ... I have no idea!

path of lowest resistance.
They are arcing yes?
Cover that mofo in hot glue.
Other ideas?

Yeah - hot glue gun should fix that....

Weird, normally kitsets are pretty well designed when it comes to that sort of thing

I'm with Silver, hot glue around the bottom of the caps.

Another suggestion, don't buy anything from DSE. :p

No arcs ... just a loud !POP! ... and a bright flash. Like discharging a capicitor ...

I'll try insulating all the leads. The kitset works fine, but for some reason it keeps doing this when ever I turn it it on. After it does it once it doesn't do it anymore.

The kitset still works fine ay ... no problems, but just to safety issues I thought I should find out why this happens.

I'll just use shorter wires maybe? My capicotr leads are quite lengthy but even that shouldn't matter ... should it?
