Well i was in the middle of browseing this forums when all of a sudden my screen lost the red colour on it and i could smell blowen cap's so i thought shi* and tried a diff monoitor but still no red so i pulled out my brand new (less than 2 weeks old) GF4MX 440 64mb from leadtek and sure enought next to one of the cap's is a big brown mark. So i am back down S3 virge 2mb card untill i can gte the card RMA'ed but i still don't know why it blew, it was not overclockjed in any way, the agp speed and voltage were all normall and fsb @100mhz but i can still get 4fps on counter-strike @ 600x800 :(

Damn man, sorry to hear about that. :(
I think that capacitor must have had a design/manufacturing fault because I reckon it would take more current than can be obtained from an AGP slot to make it blow like that....

Leadtek normally use the best capacitors tho, Sanyo I think.

Anyone feel free to shoot me down about the AGP current theory.....

Good luck getting a replacement... Kind of reminds me of what happened to my very first Voodoo card ;)

Holy hell!
The exact same thing happened to my Geforce 2 MX400 in our second PC on saturday!
One second its fine, then there was a little flash/fuzzy line on the screen then - no red. Bugger.
Oh well, long since out of warranty, time to get a Ti4200 just in time for the UT2003 demo. ;)

Maybe poor QC from someone. These things happen.

I once installed this womans 29" Sharp TV - plugged it in and thirty seconds later this loud bang went, and the screen went black, except for this really REALLY REALLY bright light coming out in a thin line across the centre, after we started smelling burning plastic we decided it was time to yank the cord out from the wall...

You've got to expect it from time to time, even the best manufacturers have duds. You'll get a new one - ask the shop if you can have some loan stock as you are being inconvenienced. They don't have to, but they might ;)
