This third service pack for Windows 2000 began beta testing late last year, and was originally slated to be a maintenance release including no new features. However, SP3 will end up as quite a significant update, adding support for Automatic Updates and a new configuration pane to comply with Microsoft's antitrust settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice and nine states.

this isn't the beta binky this is a release candidate. i posted a link to the beta a while back on the old forums. looks like we may see sp3 this month. :)

also note:
A similar feature will be included in Windows XP Service Pack 1, set to enter beta testing this week with a final release expected late this summer.
looks good. we shall see which OS is better, win2k sp3 or xp sp1. looks like us win2k users are getting the update first :p :D

I'm still running SP1 cause when I put SP2 it made windows worse,

ok, so i got the version wrong...
anyway, this is what i like about it
Dubbed "Configure Programs," the new feature appears as part of Add/Remove Programs accessible via the Control Panel. Users will be given the option to override Microsoft defaults and select a custom Web browser, e-mail client, media player, instant messenger, and Java virtual machine. There will also be an option to hide integrated Windows components such as Internet Explorer or Windows Media Player.

lol N just go read the article it's not long :p

M$ has been forced to make it easier to over ride their defaults... i like it! hopefully the improvements in 2k sp3 will also be present in xp sp1.

with win2k sp3 out tho, win2k users wil have bragging rights over xp users for a fair while :D:p:D

also N how did sp2 make your comp worse? for me it's a huge improvement, even over sp1.

it slowed it down, and had some errors with IE6, don't know why,
more likely my computer or something like that.
