I havent read the artical yet, just thought I'd share this kick ass news now.
Aparently no problems to 2.7 GHz.

Not much more news than that I'm afraid, but things are looking up.

Indeed, i'm afraid i haven't been keeping up with the roadmaps, as they change so much it's rather frivolous, but moving on, what are the actual changes in the thoroughbred?
Just moving to .13 micron, lower voltage, less heat etc?
Still, looks promising for AMD :D
well only time can tell,
I'll believe it when I see it with my own eyes,
but if this is true, intel will be seriously screwed cause it will mean that it won't be hard for AMD to catch up in the GHz up to Intel.
If you are wise, you would be buying shares in AMD now and selling of your Intel one's, :D

Not really much of a read, But VERY good news for the AMD fanboys :D Then again, We have no idea what voltage cooling etc gigabyte used... They could have been using Ln2...

It'll certainly allow for the sort of AMD/Intel competition they we've all come to know and love. And hopefully neither one will be an outright winner and they'll both have to keep up their price war.

You said it N - I'll believe it when I see some real reviews. We'll have to wait and see if the TBred can perform like that on standard air cooling........ Not that i'll be buying a TBred anyway..... but for those of you who are I hope that AMD have very competitive pricing.

I won't be upgrading to it as I already have an athlon XP, but if I had a Duron, or a low T-Bird I would be rubbing my hands together. Especially if you can get a 2.7GHz XP for under $300.

I might still upgrade, but that's because I'm sitting on a 1600+ :(
So there is a huge advantage for me, especially if the price is anywhere near $300. I can't see how it could be though, not when you take into account the fact that 2100+s are going for $670 at the moment.
I agree there isn't much point for someone who has already invested that sort of money. They are better waiting for the hammer. (why the hell did they change the name) :(

The T-Bred CPU will be same pricing as Paliminos now, as they are cheaper to produce than current ones.
I expect they will bring out 1800+ all the way up to 2200+ in a weeks time, so the 1800+ will be the best bang for your buck, about $300, especially if it goes any where near 2.7GHz.

I'm with Deviant on this, and any Duron owners can look forward to some extremely cheap Palaminos if they cannot afford a TBred.

hmmmm....
*rethinks buying p4 1.6A system or Cheap T-bird system*

A 2.7GHz T-bred would most definitely be nice.

Did you mean a cheap Tbird system or a cheap Palomino system?

apparently it should only be 2700+ not 2700 mHz look here (http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=27&threadid=800056&highlight_key=y&keyword1=2%2E7)

I'm still hopeful it MHz, cause quote"Thoroughbred 2200+ to 2.6-2.7 GHz," They used 2200+ and completly changed to GHz and removed the +, and thats more than a simple typo mistake. Yes I could still be wrong, but they might have been using water cooling or a peltier.

That was my original thought. Because it seems like too much of an overclock going to 2700MHz.

If they are mint overclockers I can't wait... I'll be upgrading my Athlon XP 1600+ to one if I can purely for the increased overclocking and the lower heat.....

they say it was oc'd using Easytune 4, which is actually done thru windows.. I dont know exactly how it works, but a P4 1.6A that can only reach 2.2-2.3Ghz normally, can usually get upto 2.6Ghz when using easytune. hopefully they do oc that high thru normal means, coz not too many people buy Gigabyte boards for overclocking

well, think how high northwoods can go on stock cooling....we should be seeing up to 2.5ghz on air cooling, and i dont see why not...a p4 can..and there not exactly made to be OC friendly like a AMD chip...

A P4 1.6GHz has a 133 FSB and a 12x multiplier, so when overclocking to 2.4GHz, the FSB runs at 200MHz, so it's probably not the CPU limiting the overclock.
Thats an 800 MHz overclock, and thats pretty standard, ie with air cooling.
The T-Breds however you can unlock the multiplier. I think 2.7GHz us unlikely too, but one place is already advertising a 2GHz 2500+ and taking pre-orders, so who knows.
If you overclock that by just 233 MHz, then it becomes a 2800+.

eh? what? last time i checked P4 1.6s were 100 x 16...

well, this is my interpretation of how wel they will OC
2.3Ghz - air cooling
2.5Ghz - water cooling
2.7Ghz - peltier/Watercooling
3Ghz - extreme cooling - Phase change, LN2 etc etc..
pretty much wot a northwood does...i hope my predictions come true :)

You are quite right, it is 100MHz, with a 16x multiplier. Which means a 150 MHz FSB for a 2.4GHz overclock.
That means you're only running the motherboard 50% out of spec, not bad for an overclock. Thats the same as running a 133 MHz FSB at 200MHz, and about what motherboards get. Thus it's still likely a limiting factor.
