Hey guys. Me is on dialup with xtra on 56k internal modem. me is playing a bit of bf1942 online, and just browse net as well. I was wondering if there is any properties or anything that I can enable to make my connection a little better/faster or something and no Dsl or any fast net connection is not an option. I play on NZ servers so its not too bad but sometimes it just pisses me off. I conenct at 56k all the time, so Its not like im connecting at low speed or anything. I mean options like if I update my modem drivers or something do ya reckon that might have a big impact on performance?

thoughts appreciated?
thanks

I've heard turning off data compression helps with ping a little....... when I did it there was no noticable difference.

at the moment even dsl users get lag on BF. the planes are jerky even when i have a 59 ping, tis crazy.

There is a mp demo patch coming out soon so maybe it will fix it

What is wrong with an isa modem

Try www.56k.com . I think you will find that of interest, you might even be able to upgrade to v.92, if it isn't already

ISA modem is da bomb, :D
good on ya, those are the best,

I hate these winmodems, everytime I connect, my sound stops for a second or two, whereas ISA never did that cause it's full hardware, i miss ISA, :( :D

anyway,

Try a bit of google, I once found an article which told me to change some things, and it worked a bit faster, also are you using a proxy, it can speed up things way faster,

cause a proxy (rough explanation) is international pages stored on the local server, so you get faster access,??

On the note of ISA modems being killer, if anyone wants a 33k modem ISA for cheap then I've got one I can sell. If you have alot of phones in your house or your connections aren't very good then this will be as fast as a 56k will be.

ISA modems arent that bad

They restrict the modem from using the CPU / less CPU usage, more hardware decoding :)

hehe yeah thats what my first thought was, but hey you try convince my dad to pay another 30 dollars a month to have fast internet, that he hardly even uses.:( He annoys me sometimes:mad: Oh well, me will ahve to wait until Ive finished tech and got a good steady job before I get DSL, or I convince my dad otherwise.

Yes ISA modems are da bomb, as instead of there ISA counterparts do not use up CPU cycles.
Yeah ill do a google and see what I come up with. Also I did disable software compression, but didnt really notice the difference.

Hmm, I was under the impression Telecom dont support that

However I could be wrong...

My point is "WAI BOTHAR!"

Also, TheChosen_1, do you work at all? Part-time I mean?

You could ask your dad to pay for the $30 Jetstart fee, and you pay the ISP charges...he doesnt have to pay any more, and you get the slightly better speed.

Pity its not really broadband :( Cable 256k option for me soon. SOON!

[thinks]
hmm, still have to source a modem ($40-60 on tardme), and install costs of $1,000,000 or $20-per-phone for the filters...

How much for the ISP charges? If so Im getting it, and yes I do work part time, I get about $40-$50 a week.

Personally i think that it's not worth getting ADSL cause of the caps they are putting on now and stuff like that.

Are you using a proxy server? cause it can speed things up??

ISP charges 25-40+?

I use Paradise, its $30 a month...telecom charges me $29.95 per month for the Jetstart, and $29.95 a month for the actual phone line...so I am guessing thats merely another $30 a month for you.

Nice eh :)

Yea ISA modems are the shiznit, my Conexant does that - my mp3s start popping/stuttering for a bit while it connects = lam3

I love ISA .. pity my one ISA port is poked.

Yes I do connect at 56,000BPS everytime. Know dont use a proxy, and I dont know If I can really be fu><ored, forking out $40 or so of the good stuff every month.
I have no trouble with my ISA modem in the way of it messing with MP3's or anything. Although Winxp refuses to detect it everytime I reformat. Have to do it manually. But thats irrelevant.

that's pretty much the same for all windows with ISA.

I normally connect at 50.6kbps, my max was 57.2 once, but it makes no difference,

For proxy thing, try out and see how it goes,
go to internet options, connection, setting, use proxy,
and then you type in the proxy for your ISP, if you can't find it, do a google or check the ISP page. See how that goes for you, might help you.

that connection figure is completely irrelevant. It's only what the initial connection was at. Even then it's a rough guess.
