why is the pic of the southbridge upside down?

also, howcome the Epox and Albatron got recommended, and Asus didn't when it performs like they do?

lol.. I will have to ask Iceflame about the pic.

I did not recommend Asus when

1. Price. It's pretty much the most expensive board of all.
2. When compared with Epox, its overclocking options are rather limited.
3. If u want a system board, Albatron offers comparable performance at a lower cost.
4. Too many damn jumpers.

In conclusion, it got beaten on overclocking when compared with Epox and it's performance/price ratio is not as good as Albatron.

I find it a bit hard to position Asus in this review, for overclockers or for system or??

well, the way i see the Asus board, is that it is expensive, but for some who's got heaps of money and want's the best, they don't care about that,

and as for jumpers, well, you can run the thing in full jumperless mode thru bios, plus jumpers are not bad, once you set them, you don't need to worry about them.

it doesn't matter, it's just that some brand which i never heard of before (albatron) gets and award while Asus doesn't, did make sense to me,

anyway, it's a good review with lots of benchmarks.

:D

THX, N.

BTW, for the Asus board, there is the jumper for

1. DDR voltage
2. 2.1V CPU voltage.

These two are controlled via jumpers.

There are others, e.g. USB 2.0 function, etc.

North is "up" north and south is "down" south ... Just to make something different.

What was wrong with teh Abit's if you don't mind me asking...... it's not really gonna deter me as I already have the board :p

The board would lock up with any of the GF4 cards, Ti or MX. This only happened with one particular AMD XP-1600+. If you get another one, then the board would be fine. However, that CPU works fine with any other boards that we've came across, including the ones in the review. All of the Abit boards functions correctly with GF2 or GF3 cards, with that particular CPU as well.

No idea why. That's why we did not included Abit in this review.

O I C....... not running a GF4 at the mo' coz I haven't got a new one back from the distributor  but will have a close look when it does arrive........ just on a similar note I read that increasing the AGP driving value helps with teh XP + Nvidia = infinite loop error..... or something along those lines

Thx. But it's not the infinity loop thing. The machine would hard lock in our case. Need to hold the power button down for 4 seconds to shut it down.

You might not know Albatron before but everyone heard of Gigabyte I think.

Albatron=Gigabyte

Hmmm thats funny, what kind of psu were you using. I've heard people having problems with gf4's and palaminos, maybe abit is a bit picky about this.

I tried a PowerMax 500W PSU and a server class 420W PSU.

Any chance of seeing a MSI6380 KT3-Ultra-ARU added to the review....

Oh and what are the psu requirements on a "basic" 3d gaming system...

e.g

7200rpm hdd
256Mb DDR
XP 1800+
Kt333 motherboard
AGP4x (currently gf2 gtspro but will be upgraded within the year)
PCI Sound Card
...

P.S please remember that i'm comparitivly poor and don't really want to spend Heap's of cash on a psu.

SO 500-Watter's are out.

last-bit..
currently a procase-300W psu is good enough to power a similar system but for sdr ram and a kt133a board (the rest is the same).
Could i reasonably expect to be able to use this psu on a DDR-Board???

 I'm Done now  really i am...
Thanks in advance...

Just thought I'd post to say that I just put my GF4 back in with no probs on an abit KX7-333.... XP even found the drivers for it without the Gainward or XP CD in the drive...... Hmmm I musta d/l'd a set of XP drivers at one point or another
