I use Opera as my usual browser, and Konqueror in Linux.

Mozilla has had tabbed browsing for aaaaages now.. Very handy but I think Opera does it better....

BTW, for us lam3rz, where do you get it? Even http://www.netscape.com/ don't have it.....

I use a combination of Mozilla, Opera, IE and NetCaptor (the IE frontend that KJ mentioned ;)).

The main one that I use is NetCaptor mostly, because it is based on IE it will display most pages properly. *grumbles about stylespc website being made in Word 98*

Also use Opera alot and sometimes Mozilla. Don't see the point in Netscape when it is the same as Mozilla essentially. Have used K-melion and others before as well.

*BUMP* :P

Mozilla is really good, it is the sole reason I no longer use IE for anything other than testing/website dev.

and to think.. I would never have changed if IE hadnt allowed that porn dialer to install itself.

yeah, i use NS7. I have had it for a while now and i find it pretty good, but its still no IE (IE has its good and bad sides).

I only use NS7 now if IE breaks, so it isnt very often. It has tabbed browsing though, which is pretty cool.

Im now using MyIE2 though, which is IE based, and has tabbed browsing. NS7 is still installed though, just in case.

To all people that want the best browser around at the moment, based on Mozilla, download Firebird.

It's the next gen standalone browser from the Mozilla project, and it beats everything else hands down.

Opera all the way. And then Firebird.
I only use IE for windows updates and that is it.
I thought browser tabs were old hat now anyway?

For infos on Firebird.. check out this (http://discuss.futuremark.com/forum/showflat.pl?Cat=&Board=techsoftware&Number=2980167&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=0&fpart=1) thread for proccessor optimised build and tweaks that make firebird really fast. (now it load up as fast as IE after the tweak, and browse really fast :D)

Tried Netscape out a few years ago and I didn't like it.

Been using the mighty Opera for a while now, Firebird comes 2nd on my list, I use that quite a bit too.

Opera all the way.

It's the FASTEST browser in the WORLD! :)

After a long time living with all the bugs and unviewable pages with Opera and Mozilla, I now use 'AVANT' browser ;o)

It's a wrapper for MSIE, so it's compatible with 99.9% of the sites out there, and blocks popups, is multi-threaded, tabbed (well, buttoned) browsing, minimizes to taskbar, multiple home pages, multiple faves at once, delete only chosen 'typed addresses', etc etc etc and it's skinnable.

I've had very few problems with it (compared to the many with opera, mozilla etc) and btw, I have found IE to be much faster than Opera at rendering pages.

I'd probably give avant a go if I didn't use opera mail. Having the 2 apps bundled into one is just so much easier. WWW and email go hand in hand.

Also, I honestly do beleive that opera renders pages the fastest. (from what i have seen).

Firebird, at least it FOLLOWS w3c standards !

i use mozilla mail so i just use mozilla. firebird is great too but i don't feel it does anything better than mozilla (for me anyway), and i see little point in having two 20MB+ progs in memory when i browsing and emailing at the same time. and for anyone who is about to suggest thunderbird, that last sentence still applies.

way to revive my old thread guys... man does this make me look out of date or what?

*cough* LAST YEAR *cough*

I use firebird now, its smaller and faster. I had a brief affiar with Avant, but we parted after I lost my bookmarks.

All very well, but most web pages don't ;)

Good on you for fighting the good fight, though ;)

Actually many web developers are starting to see the light and more and more web pages will render properly in mozilla and not IE as they adhere to the standards.
I currently use Firebird for web and Evolution for email.

try this. http://www.myie2.com/

i have used both Avant and MyIE2. Both are pretty much the same, but i just feel that MyIE2 has more power, and feels more professional imo.

Not if they like having visitors... sorry but there's no denying that MSIE is still far and away the most 'popular' browser. If a page doesn't work in IE, then the developers haven't applied due care, IMO, and will probably find themselves out of work. Whinging about standards is one thing, having a page that doesn't work in over half of the worlds browsers, is quite another.

I am yet to see a page that 'complies with W3C standards' and won't display right in MSIE 6....

Besides anything else, most of IE is loaded with Windows anyhow, so why duplicate all that code by loading another (equally bloated) browser? Doesn't make much sense to me...

I have found a good dose of style sheets can fix up most of IE's rendering issues.

okay, here's a simple one for you:

table backgrounds. say you want to use a nice pattern as a horizontal separator in a table, simple right? just add a background parameter to the <tr> tag. problem is, IE6 doesn't display backgrounds from <tr> tags, so to get around this you put the background parameter in the <td> tag...

BUT!

W3C DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional states that the background parameter is NOT valid in a <td> tag, but it IS valid in a <tr> tag.

so it's quite easy to create a page that is HTML 4.01 Transitional compliant that displays beautifully in Mozilla/Netscape/Opera but doesn't display correctly in IE6.

there are a number of little frustrations like this regarding browser compatibility and the W3C standards. maybe one day MS will actually try to comply with the standards... i know, i know, but a little boy can dream.

I am so pwned

But I am sure that, when pressed, a number of such things could be found noncompliant in mozilla, or opera...

Well for starters are you even using linux, or you want to be cool and just say you are and you want Microsoft to die, blah blah.

You my friend are a very "smart" person because if a mod decides he could get your IP, talk to your ISP inform Microsoft and I can safely say you will be getting a phone call from MS.

Please keep your pathetic "underground" happenings elseware.

Sure its that time of the month for me... :)

man im gonna get flammed for this but oh well

i use IE... it does everything i want it to do... and i have no problems with it. it takes like .1 seconds to load so i dont really care if using another browser will change that by .05 of a second.

I've been using Opera for a while now as I couldn't fix IE after it was hijacked and spammed with pr0n so I just deleted it and forgot about it :D I'm pretty happy with Opera cause of its ability to be skinned and also the tabbed pages is pretty good when you have 10 windows open at the same time.

spoon: no, that was balinor's.

no, i'm not one of these 'cool' people as someone put it. i do use linux most of the time.

i have no problem paying for software, if the software is worth paying for. pity windows isn't worth paying for. go ahead. flame me, ban me.

the reason i'm so anti-microsoft is because i've been researching palladium, and i'm now paranoid. sorry.

I used to be the same, I used IE and never had a problem with it.. but one day.. it pissed me off for the last time when it let a porn dialer download and install itself all over my system.... after removing that crap.. the first thing i did was download mozilla and install it.. ive never been back to ie since... (apart from win/office updated etc)

I'm using Mozilla 1.5 at work insted of IE6, mainly because that's what came on the latest PC World cd and I'd feel guilty about wasting work bandwidth on a browser download.

Still using IE6 at home but planning downloading FireBird sometime soon.

Don't have to worry about Spyware Installing itself on my machine with Mozilla so I'm happy. Plus no more random browser crashes. :)
