I have a liteon 812SDVDRW 8x

Can someone please reccomend some media/shops ?

This is the reason why I havn't bought a DVD writer yet. I think the price of their blank media is too expensive...
I also have a feeling that this form of data storage will not last that long. I can't back that up with proof only that I think that they are too unreliable.

I will eat my [insert expetive here] if you can find DVD-RW's for less than $3...
Put simply, there is not a high enough demand for them to be made, hence the small numbers of discs made, and the high prices that go with them ;)
DSE has DVD-RW Discs in jewel cases for around $8... thats the best price you can get them at the highest conveniance to you.
you can also pick up imation dvd-r / dvd+r discs in jewel cases for $5 from DSE.

Are you after DVDR or DVDRW?
www.qmb.co.nz sell 25 DVD spindles of Princo DVD-R for $28 and Arita DVD+RW in 10 packs for $27 or 100 packs for $213.

I just got one of these burners as well. Aparently the high quality brands Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden seem to be the best... those princo and other cheap ones are a bit nasty.
check out this link which outlines diffrerent dvd media tested with this drive http://www.cdfreaks.com/article/141/5
This drive seems to be slightly better suited to dvd+r medium. dvd+r is also slightly cheaper ....its what i'm using for my backups (and they still play fine in set top dvd players)

I am running 812S firmware on my drive, and princos are fine.
Did the media included with the drive work ok?
If you've been having problems with more than one brand, i doubt it's the medias problem.

Digitrex 4x -R media 25 Piece Spindles retail for around $60-$65 don't know of any specific retail stores that sell them, but I see them on one of my wholesale pricelists so must be someone that stocks them.
I dont know much about why people are worried about media not working... then again maybe because I have a Pioneer drive?
I use Princo's - they are my fav, and I get them for around 32+GST, more then QMB, but I prefer not to go close to them at all... then the other day I bought a spindle of 50 princo's for $44+.
I dont see whats wrong with having DVD burners, if you think about it, you're paying less per mb for DVD-R's then CD-R's.... plus the fact you can fit so much more per DVD-R than a CD-R disc.
I only use CD-R's when I have to now... (e.g. burning backups of games, or when i'm burning small stuff thats not worth putting onto DVD-R's)

I might get some princos, and try them out..
I'm down south, so I don't want to pay for postage for stuff to be shipped down from auckland, and then have to return them!
Does anyone have like 5 princos or so, that i can buy to test if they work with my drive ?
Thanks!
